The Kansas City Chiefs made sure to address their wideout concerns this off-season. The signing of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Xavier Worthy has brought a light of hope for Patrick Mahomes and his squad after a long time in the receivers department. Brown, who has been a part of the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals didn’t make as much of an impact in both teams.
As it turns out, the Chiefs’ new wide receiver may finally be able to do justice to his nickname. Brown turned 27 today and his birthday gift was packaged with praises and deep throws in the OTAs from Patrick Mahomes, who has been happy with his performance throughout the training camp.

The Chiefs’ new wide receiver showed off his excellent ball-tracking skills and it was impressive enough for Mahomes to share it on his X account. The Kansas City Star’s message was succinct but gave a trailer of what the Chiefs are about to bring this season. Mahomes post on X was simply labeled “😎” after the Chiefs shared the same video with captions, “Birthday boy deep ball 🎂.”

The video shows Mahomes throwing a deep ball to Marquise Brown as he ran down the field at full speed, with the DB unable to keep up with him. Brown’s tracking skills seem to be on par with top WRs as he catches the ball after looking at it for a moment. The Chiefs already had OTAs from May 28-30 and then some from June 4-7.
“I’ve seen it the entire offseason from working in Texas to here,” Patrick Mahomes said. “I remember the first day I told guys like Drue (Tranquill), ‘He (Brown) tracks the down the field well and he can really go.’ I think y’all saw it today, I’m giving him chances downfield, and he’s making the plays happen. The more plays he makes, the more we’ll continue to give him those chances. (He’s) a good addition to our offense.”
Brown’s speed is unparalleled because back in 2019, he recorded a 40-yard time of 4.27 seconds, which is close to Xavier Worthy’s 4.21 seconds. However, Brown’s career-high came in his final season with the Baltimore Ravens (2021) when he amassed 1,008 yards and 6 touchdowns. Unfortunately, his last season with the Arizona Cardinals saw him at his lowest when he had 574 yards and 4 touchdowns for the whole season.
The Kansas City Chiefs offense looks anticipatingly threatening!
There is only one thing that stands between Patrick Mahomes and another Super Bowl ring which is a laborious schedule. The Chiefs will play 9 out of their last 15 games on the road. However, the team has speedsters like Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, and Marquise Brown in their arsenal now. Not to mention Travis Kelce’s contribution to their offense continues to be an edge for the side. All these receivers have blazing-fast speed and excellent ball-tracking skills.
Last year, Rashee Rice led the team in receiving yards while Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney could only account for 484 yards and 2 touchdowns combined. Rice had 938 yards and 7 touchdowns by himself. Even Andy Reid has confidence in the wide receiver trio after watching what transpired in the OTAs.

Reid had nothing but words of appreciation for Marquise Brown. “He’s another one, a smart kid and he just kind of gets it,” Reid said. “Pat [Mahomes] and he — there’s so much talking going on, which I look at, and I think that’s important. As long as the receivers are willing to listen and then share what they saw and it’s accurate, you normally can develop a pretty good relationship relatively quick as you go.”
There’s just one complication, though. Rashee Rice might be suspended for a couple of games because of the accident that happened on March 30. But it’s the perfect opportunity for Worthy and Brown to showcase their skills. Brown’s birthday has fulfilled another one of his wishes, which was to play for the Kansas City Chiefs as he mentioned a couple of months ago.

“I thought I was going to get drafted by the Chiefs when I was coming out,” commented Brown. “We talked about that since I’ve been here, that they did a lot of work on me. The world’s got a way of having things come around like that.” “I knew that if I was to come here it could be a big impact for the team and [bring] some element that they need.”
Things are finally looking positive for Mahomes and the men in red with the changes in the right direction.
