Will Jordan Phillips be the game-changer the Cowboys need to dominate the NFC East?

Jordan Phillips has found himself on the move once again. Over the past nine seasons, he has played for the Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Giants. Now, Phillips is set to join Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys, adding another chapter to his football journey. Though he knew about the trade, finding out he was joining the Cowboys wasn’t something he was anticipating.

As reported by the Cowboys, their new addition confirmed it, “Me and Joe (Schoen) talked and it just seemed like it was going to be the best thing to move on.” He also added, “I didn’t know it was going to be here. It’s nice because it’s super close to home.” This news for sure was a twist in his career path, adding an unexpected yet exciting opportunity. However, this is also a welcoming change for the Cowboys.

After finishing up the 53-man roster, the Giants let go of players who didn’t fit the criteria. Several changes were made within the team, which included bringing on Joshua Kelley, Raheem Layne, and Jonathan Sutherland. While trading defensive back Jordan Phillips and releasing Jalen Mills, who was on the non-football injury list.

The DT expressed his excitement for this move, “I’m just really excited to play for an organization like this.” Joining a team closer to home will motivate him and might improve his stats of 181 tackles and 24 sacks throughout his career.

Cowboys hope his addition to the likes of Osa Odighizuwa, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Malik Hooker in the defense will improve their game play. Since he’s moved around a bit, his ability to adjust to new plays could be an advantage.

Even though Jordan’s stats of 15 tackles and 2.5 sack, were pretty modest for the season 2023, team work might bring the stability that the Cowboys need. Considering the first-round pick, Mazi Smith didn’t live up to expectations in his rookie season. Which became worse after Carl Davis got injured. And Albert Huggins was ejected after a practice on Wednesday, August 14, because of an altercation with the Los Angeles Rams
