Can Sean Payton handle the heat, or will he crumble under the same pressure as Coach Prime?

Sean Payton and Deion Sanders will be closely monitored by the NFL community this season. The Denver Broncos HC sent the football community into a frenzy last year. During his first season coaching the team, he benched his veteran quarterback, Russell Wilson.

Ironically, all eyes have been centered on Sanders, who fanned the flames of the college football world. In the 2023 season, the Colorado Buffaloes HC assisted his team in securing a handful of triumphs. However, ‘Coach Prime’s’ first year coaching the team did not produce the results he expected as he concluded the season with a 4-8 record.

Subsequently, this has prompted NFL analysts to opine that the coaches will be facing the spotlight during their second-year term.

Will the 2024 season mark Sean Payton and Deion Sanders’ era?

During an episode with ‘The Drive’, an analyst addressed the tense situation surrounding the coaches’ output this season. Diving further into the subject, the analyst voiced his opinion on Payton and Sanders being equally deep in the water to deliver results. To ensure that Payton would potentially face the same music as Sanders, he assessed the Broncos HC’s decision to pick rookie Bo Nix over Wilson as his quarterback for the upcoming season.

While Payton’s choice certainly turned heads, the analyst denied granting him a “free pass” for this year. He notably stated that the pressure would not lay off the HC as he kicks off his second year with the franchise. “I’m not giving Payton a pass. You dumped a veteran quarterback cuz it gave you a better chance to win. So I’m going to be graceful with Bo (Nix). There’s no free pass. This is year two. You used your free pass.”

For the uninitiated, Payton’s bold move to bench Wilson did little to no favors for the Denver Broncos. To tackle the tough situation, the team ultimately traded him with the Pittsburgh Steelers. This, however, has sent the franchise into a financial hangover.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time Payton and Sanders have been linked together. Last year, the Buffs HC stood up for the 60-year-old after he was criticized by the media for not producing effective results for Denver.

I love their coach“: Prime Time candidly praises Sean Payton

The Denver Broncos found themselves in troubled waters during their 2023 campaign. Under Payton’s guidance, the team presented an unfortunate 0-3 score merely three weeks into the season. Later, the media turned the heat on the veteran head coach, who was ironically brought out of retirement to fix the issues faced by the franchise.

However, ‘Prime Time’ wasn’t having it. The Buffaloes HC stood up to the reporters who were critical of Payton and instead praised him by saying, “Hey, leave my guy alone. Leave my guy alone. I love the Broncos. I love their coach, and Payton’s my guy. He’s going to get it right, I promise you that. I believe in Payton.”

In summary, it is yet to be witnessed whether both the coaches will live up to the expectations this season. After a disastrous 2023 season, Payton will likely ensure that he has all hands on deck to prevent any miscalculations. Meanwhile, Sanders will be looking to maintain a similar hype this season and will carefully stack his players to deliver better results!
