All the drama about Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers might potentially culminate into a huge deal anytime soon. The wideout never wanted to stay any further from the Bay Area. In light of it, it appears that the WR might have been dealing with Pittsburgh to get an upper hand over the team. As it happens, some evidence has come to light that suggests Aiyuk’s continued presence on his side is very likely.
Mike Garofolo had some inside news about the receiver’s situation. The 49ers have introduced some new numbers and are trying to put the past behind them. This came sometime after the receiver chastised Brad Graham of SFNiners trying to fuel speculation about his situation.
“What I’ve been told is that Brandon Aiyuk would prefer to stay with the 49ers,” said Garofolo. “Both sides sent proposals within the last couple of days or week or so and the 49ers number has gotten better than what it was previously, and they have agreed on a lot of the main points of the deal. Their offers are in line, but it sounds like there’s just one more thing that needs to be ironed out and if that thing gets ironed out, Brandon Aiyuk signs a deal, he stays with the 49ers, he drops the trade request and finally we can put this situation behind us.”

From The Insiders on @nflnetwork: The #49ers and Brandon Aiyuk aren’t that far apart on a deal, which is why they haven’t pulled the trigger on a trade to the #Steelers and Aiyuk is still hoping they can clear one final hurdle in the negotiations. pic.twitter.com/hyJvFckRrn

Aiyuk’s situation is awfully like what his teammate Deebo Samuel went through in 2022. After the demand for an extension led to the trade request, the Niners decided to give Samuel a 3-year $73.5 extension. The situation was the same back in the day when the 49ers affirmed that they would like to hash things out with Deebo Samuel. Similarly, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers stated that they had “no intentions” to trade the receiver.
However, the only problem with Deebo Samuel’s deal is that the 49ers have the right to trade him in the 2025 season. Hopefully, that’s not a precondition in Brandon Aiyuk’s new deal. Ian Rapoport, the NFL Insider had the same thing to say about where Aiyuk, the 49ers, and the Steelers stand.
“The 49ers and the Steelers do in fact, have a deal to trade Brandon Aiyuk from the 49ers to the Steelers,” said Rapoport. “By the way, I should also mention the Steelers are also in a very good place for the Brandon Aiyuk contract extension if he got traded to the Steelers. And again, that deal is in place. It just takes the 49ers to say, ‘yes, we are doing it,’ which they have not done.”

The Niners might have gotten a reality check when Aiyuk got a $32 million-a-year deal offered by the Patriots, which the receiver declined. The point is, there’s someone out there willing to pay him the amount that he is demanding and even ready to cross that bar. During the off-season, Aiyuk was offered a franchise tag of $26 million a year and that number came down to $14 million a year soon after.
The rumors about the 49ers trying to hash things out with BA have been floating for a while now. At some point, the rumors got so worse that Aiyuk had to take charge of the situation himself.
Brandon Aiyuk just couldn’t let it fly under the radar!
A couple of days ago, Brad Graham of the SFNiners tried to do his part by pointing out that the renegotiations between the parties have begun again, based on reports from Tom Pelissero and Jordan Schultz. But Aiyuk’s comment gave birth to the possibility that whatever we’re hearing from the media may be wrong.

“Brad, Niners be in the media everyday lol, it’s two options out there pick one and stop dropping reports simple,” Aiyuk commented on an Instagram post referencing Pelissero’s report. The comment from the player offered a clear indication that matters might not be exactly how they appear to be in the media.
So where does that leave us with what Garofolo just said on the NFL Network? Well, only time will clarify the significance of the insider’s update about the deal.
