Was that enough from Bryce Young? Two games into the 2024 season, and head coach, Dave Canales has been already feeling the pressure. The Carolina Panthers lost devastatingly in both of the games–one with 47-10 against the Saints, while the other with 3-26 against the Chargers. And this clearly shows the team hasn’t undergone optimal preparations.
Hence, to avoid further damage, and prevent locker room mutiny, coach Canales decided to bench quarterback Bryce Young. Now that means, Andy Dalton will come in to replace the former No. 1 pick. So, will it resolve the problem for the franchise? Well, the answer could only be known when Dalton will step up in Week 3. But, as of now, this decision might break Young, as per the NFL insider, Dianna Russini.
One year in, Bryce Young out?

Bryce Young, the no. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft, has been benched. To talk about the same, NFL insider, Dianna Russini, joined NBC Sports on September 17. She expressed her frustration with how quickly things have changed for Young. Russini highlighted that just two years ago, teams across the league were debating whether to draft him, with many believing he was the future of a franchise. Some even said that the Panthers have full faith in their QB now. However, there were many NFL executives and coaches around the league too, who, according to Russini’s early report, were “emphatic that it’s too early to tell [Young is great] and that it’s unfair to judge Young after only nine games.” But it was all the early talks, and now almost everyone (who even supported him like his own team) are writing him off.
Hence, the NFL insider pointed out, “How quickly things have changed. So you’re telling me now Bryce Young is broken after everyone in the league said this kid was amazing, that he was great in the meeting rooms, in the classroom, on the field. Now he’s too short, his built is too frail, he’s not big enough, his footwork is horrendous. What happened between the draft and right now that it’s this bad?” Hence, according to Russini, it’s not just Bryce Young who’s responsible, the Panthers have also played a big role in his struggles. Therefore, she suggested that it’s time for the quarterback to question whether staying with the Panthers is the right choice for him, after the benching episode.
In addition to that, Russini highlighted that some might say the benching is meant to give him a mental break, but she rejected this idea, by arguing that this decision is damaging for Young. So, now if the 23-year-old leaves the team, which other spots will be beneficial to his career?
These top 3 teams could be a better option for Bryce Young!
If Bryce Young is released or opts to choose another team for himself, three spots can be helpful for him. One is the Miami Dolphins – this is because, with Tua Tagovailoa’s NFL career too in jeopardy due to multiple concussions, Young can be the quarterback for the Phins after him. Second, the Rams could be another good choice for him. This is because Matthew Stafford (36) is nearing his retirement age, so behind him and under coach Sean McVay’s offense, Young could learn the ways of quarterbacking, thus reviving his old form.

And then next, if not these teams, the 49ers could be a good option. Now you must be thinking that the 49ers have Brock Purdy. Yes, they have Mr Irrelevant of the 2022 Draft, but given the upcoming contract folding, the future can only tell if Kyle Shanahan and the team will pay him to become the NFL’s highest-paid QB. If not, Young could be their insurance policy.
Hence, it remains to be seen what’s going to unfold this season.
