The Washington Commanders are hell-bent on reforming the whole team. They hired Adam Peters as their new GM got Dan Quinn as their HC, drafted Jayden Daniels to lead the team on the field, and many more. But this effort to rebuild the arsenal goes beyond the team roster. Per recent news, the Commanders now have their eyes set on Brandon Sosna.

Per Mike Garafolo, the Commanders want to hire the senior director of the Detroit Lions football administration, Sosna. If Sosna leaves the Lions franchise, it will be the third time this year that a major front-office employee has left the Detroit football team. Brandon Sosna is a well-respected figure for the Detroit Lions, and losing him might be a major setback for the team.

Initially, Garafolo pointed out that the commanders contacted Brandon Sosna to hire him for a “high ranking front-office role.” It wasn’t clear what position the Washington team was looking to fulfill, but this came after the Commanders hired Lance Newmark as their new assistant GM.

Garafolo’s initial post on X said, “The #Commanders are working to hire #Lions exec Brandon Sosna for a high-ranking front-office role, sources say. The fast-rising Sosna, 31, spent the last two years as Detroit’s senior director, football administration after a three-year stint as USC’s chief of staff.”

According to sources, Sosna plays a huge role in overseeing the Lions’ salary cap and player contracts. Also, he played some role in giving Jared Goff the biggest contract in the Detroit Lions’ franchise history. He was also responsible for getting new contracts for the WR Amon Ra St. Brown and the OT Penei Sewell as well.

However, the NFL Network analyst later reported that Sosna isn’t the only one the commanders are considering for this job. Apparently, the team is also eyeing the former Eagles VP of Football Administration, Jake Rosenberg, for the same role. Per the report, Rosenberg is letting his contract lapse in Philly to look for better opportunities.

As mentioned earlier, the Detroit Lions face a challenge because if Sosna leaves, he will become one of 3 people from the Lions front office to be snagged by another team. One of these 3 people is Lance Newmark, whom the commanders have already hired.

Lance Newmark to help the WCs scout better talent

Newmark is the Commander’s new Assistant GM, and he will report directly to Adam Peters. In his 28-year NFL career, he’s spent 26 with the Detroit Lions. Over the last few years, Newmark has been pretty active in helping the Detroit Lions oversee college and pro scouting operations. Adam Peters described him as a “respected talent evaluator and a great leader.”

Per Peters’ statement, it became clear that the commanders hired him to assist their GM with scouting mostly. Before joining the Washington Commanders, Newmark served as a senior director of player personnel in 2022, a director in the same position for 2016–2021, director of college scouting from 2015–2016, and assistant director of college scouting from 2008–2014, to name a few.

It’s pretty clear that Newmark is well-versed in scouting talent coming from different parts of the country. He was hired in February this year, which means he might have had something to do with hiring Jayden Daniels as the new QB along with some other changes. So, where do you see the commanders going this season? Let us know below.
