Tom Brady now backing Dak Prescott—Is this a sign of respect or just media play?

Believe it or not, Dak Prescott has played against the Cleveland Browns only twice in his 8-season long career. The Cowboys’ quarterback is 1-1 against the Cleveland football team and is hoping to tip the scales in his favor after today’s matchup. But it won’t be easy to win a rivalry game that dates back to 1963!

Both Dak Prescott and Deshaun Watson have a lot to prove this year. Watson, who missed 11 games last year, will fight to justify his $230 million contract. Prescott, on the other hand, will try to get the Dallas Cowboys out of the playoff slump and, of course, battle for his own contract. Tom Brady, who will debut with FOX this year, had a few thoughts on this QB matchup.

“They both have huge years ahead but they’re coming off obviously different seasons last year,” Brady admitted to Joel Klatt on FOX. “Dak’s coming off probably the best season of his career, statistically. Deshaun wants to get out there and prove that Cleveland made the investment in him and that he can come through when it matters.”

Last season, Prescott led the league with 36 passing touchdowns and his receiver, CeeDee Lamb broke the franchise’s all-time season reception record. Prescott threw for a whopping 4,516 yards with an impressive 36-9 TD/Int ratio. However, Prescott, who is in the last year of his 4-year $160 million contract, is also seeking an extension. Watson, on the other hand, is returning post-surgery after going down with a shoulder injury in week 7 against the Colts last year. He returned in week 9 only to find out that he has a fractured arm.

The Browns QB has missed 22 games in the last 2 seasons. Hence, he might be a little rusty facing Prescott following a long hiatus. However, we can’t ignore the fact that Watson threw for 4,823 yards and 33 TDs at the peak of his career back in 2020, when he was with the Houston Texans.

But coming back to Brady’s take, the 7x Super Bowl winner explained how both QBs will have to face elite defenders like the 2023 AP DPOY, Myles Garrett, and the Cowboys’ pass rusher, Micah Parsons. Both teams in general have an elite defense and Brady thinks it’s going to be a “tough, hard-nosed football game.”

“It’s a little bit of a different story between two very talented quarterbacks, they’ve played well at different times throughout their career,” said Brady, who will debut as a commentator in the Browns-Cowboys game. “They’re going against some pretty talented defenses, though. So, it’s going to be a tough, hard-nosed football game.”

Have an interesting take?

A column from Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department gave a better idea about where these teams stand in terms of defense. Per the column, the Cleveland Browns have the No. 1 defense in the league right now. The Dallas Cowboys ranked third on the same list. So, it’s going to be incredibly tough for both QBs to withstand the pressure.

While Tom Brady was being a bit modest while taking on Dak Prescott and Deshaun Watson, he had a whole different take on the Cowboys QB a few months back.

Just like every football fan, the media is also very invested in TB12’s foray into the world of broadcasting. Brady is about to be a rookie again, but this time he’s on the other side of the spectrum calling the games. His 10-year $375 million contract with FOX has garnered a lot of attention and he’s about to put all his broadcasting and football knowledge to the test in the Browns-Cowboys game.

Michael Strahan and Tom Brady made the announcement about TB12’s debut. Brady knows that calling a Cowboys game is a huge deal and didn’t mince his words when he demanded more “storyline” worthy moments from Dak Prescott, the leader of one of the most storied franchises in the league.

“Obviously having the Cowboys on is a huge draw, as America’s team,” Brady said. “That’s gonna get a little hard for me to say that all the time. I understand. They were the competition for a long time, but in this new role, I know the Cowboys, how important they are to this network. They’ve got great storylines. Come on, Dak Prescott, let’s see if he can finally come through.”

After hearing Brady calling out Prescott, the crowd started to boo the Patriots legend, and he tried to shrug it off by saying, “Did that just slip out?” While the audience was a little sour after Brady’s admission, we cannot ignore the fact that he is looking at Dak Prescott’s situation from the lens of a GOAT QB. So, his takes are going to be a bit blunt.
