Who vs. who is a topic that often delights fans and sports analysts in the NFL world. This time, it’s a debate between Dak Prescott and Jalen Hurts, sparked by the NFL leader in quarterback rushing touchdowns (75).
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton knows a thing or two about the quarterback position. However, his latest take might not be acceptable to the Philadelphia Eagles and Jalen Hurts’ faithful. It was even disagreeable to sportscaster Emmanuel Acho, who highlighted a crucial point indicating why Hurts is better than Prescott in comparison.

Cam Newton recently preferred the Dallas Cowboys quarterback over the Philadelphia Eagles QB. This became a hot topic! The SPEAK hosts, Emmanuel Acho, Joy Taylor, LeSean McCoy, and James Jones, decided whether they would have Dak Prescott or Jalen Hurts. Acho offered his perspective stating, “I will take Jalen Hurts over Dak. The reason I’ll take Jalen Hurts over Dak is simple. I don’t think Jalen Hurts has ever been the reason his team has won a playoff game, go back and look at it. He’s never been the reason his team has won a playoff game….but the difference is….Dak has been the reason this team has lost playoff games. That’s true and it’s this that’s the difference between the two.”
Acho pointed out that in past playoff games, Hurts’ performance wasn’t the deciding factor in the Eagles’ victories. For instance, in the win against the Giants last season, Hurts had 188 yards, but the Giants only scored seven points, implying the Eagles could have won without Hurts’ contribution. Similarly, against the 49ers, where their quarterbacks were injured, the Eagles’ defense and other factors were more pivotal. On the other hand, Acho argued that Prescott has directly contributed to the Cowboys’ playoff losses.
He mentioned specific instances, such as the games against the Packers and the 49ers, where Prescott’s decisions and mistakes were costly. He highlighted how Prescott’s lack of awareness about the play clock and his late slide in one game could be seen as reasons for the team’s failure.
In the regular season comparisons, Acho acknowledged that Prescott is more consistent, while Hurts has a higher ceiling but a lower floor. However, in the playoffs, Acho preferred Hurts because, unlike Prescott, he hasn’t cost his team a victory. Furthermore, even McCoy supported Hurts over Prescott because of their game plays; while Jones preferred saying, “There is nothing that Jalen Hurts does better than Dak Prescott at the quarterback spot but the read option.” Besides them, Taylor, however, pointed out that both players are almost equal in stats, hence, there is no comparison between the two.

Which QB is actually better: Dak Prescott or Jalen Hurts?
During the latest episode of his 4th & 1 podcast, Cam Newton was discussing the list of top quarterbacks. He expressed, “I prefer Dak over Jalen Hurts,” while discussing Prescott’s potential contract extension. This statement stirred controversy as it involved two biggest rivals of the league. Prescott has had a mixed career in the NFL, experiencing both highs and lows without reaching an NFC Championship and Super Bowl. However, he had a standout season in 2023, throwing for 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns, finishing second in MVP voting.
On the other hand, Hurts led the team to Super Bowl LVII. In that game, Hurts passed for 304 yards and one touchdown. He also added 70 rushing yards and three rushing TDs, many reflecting from the controversial “Tush Push” play, inflated his statistics. Despite some struggles late in the season, Hurts is generally regarded as slightly superior to Prescott in current quarterback rankings.
