Is Trevor Lawrence the savior the Jaguars have been waiting for, or just another overhyped QB?

The deal is done, and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, is wealthier than before! Last month, the franchise announced that they are going to make a contract extension worth $275 million for five years for the QB. And eventually, they signed the alumni of the Clemson Tigers for such a huge amount, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in NFL history.

However, as soon as Lawrence and Jags agreed to this term, many sports analysts and NFL fans speculated on the deal. This was because of his 2023 performance in which he was arguably termed as mediocre when compared to other ‘elite’ quarterbacks. His passer rating of 88.5 with 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in 16 games in 2023 didn’t seem to impress many. Despite this, Lawrence made it to the huge amount, and Jags head coach, Doug Pederson, revealed why!

In a recent chat with NFL Network, Jaguars HC Doug Pederson revealed his confidence in their QB1. When the host asked what was the decision behind him signing for such an extension and what he sees in his QB1, Pederson replied, “Yeah, well the decision was easy.” He continued, “We all feel in the building that he’s our guy and he’s obviously the face of the franchise.”

Drafted as a first-round pick a few years ago, Lawrence immediately grabbed the attention and confidence of the side. Now that his contract situation is settled, Pederson expressed excitement and happiness for Lawrence and his family. As the team now heads into the 2024 season, they aim to build on the last two years.

Pederson emphasized that although last season didn’t end perfectly due to some injuries, keeping the QB healthy remains a priority for them. He mentioned that the team is planning to continue working hard, adding the right pieces around him, establishing a strong running game, and playing solid defense to see what they can achieve.

As of now, he is happy for the team, Lawrence, and the QB’s family for cracking such a huge deal. Meanwhile, Lawrence too came in front of the media after the contract extension in June, and here’s what he said….

He called this deal a “no-brainer,” and acknowledged, “Just grateful for them and that they see that in me, and they want me to be the quarterback here. Obviously, that’s what I want but it takes two to tango so, I’m grateful that they see the value in me, and I really feel confident in what we can accomplish here.” While Lawrence felt relieved and blessed to have the contract done, he emphasized that it allows him to focus on preparing for the upcoming season and training camp without any distractions.
