Is Brittany Mahomes' focus on soccer a distraction for Patrick during these challenging times?

As Patrick Mahomes is set to lead the Chiefs in Buffalo to face the high-flying Bills, it seems his wife Brittany Mahomes’ attention is elsewhere. The Mahomes, unfortunately, had their home burgled last month with several valuable items missing, including Brittany’s jewelry. But the pair are now looking forward to challenges on the field, with the Chiefs eyeing a 10-0 record on Sunday and Brittany eagerly waiting for her women’s soccer franchise, Kansas City Current’s clash against the Orlando Pride.

With the NWSL semifinals kicking off in just a few hours, Brittany took to her Instagram story to share a promo of the clash posted by the official handle of KC Current. After winning their quarterfinal clash against the North Carolina Courage 1-0, this is the closest the Current has gotten to a championship since 2022, when they made the final but lost to the Portland Thorns 2-0.

Since its inception in 2020, when Brittany Mahomes and Angie and Chris Long secured an expansion team, the Current has been getting better and better every single season. And this year has been beyond compare. With the Mahomes and the Longs inaugurating the CPKC Stadium earlier this year, the team from KC took on the Thorns in its season opener. And the explosive 5-4 victory was the first taste of what was to come of this historic campaign.

But going into the semifinals this year, the Current won’t have the home advantage they’ve adored this season, thanks to the record-breaking crowds that have shown up for every single match of theirs. They’re headed to Inter&Co Stadium, where they’ll be faced with a mammoth challenge, considering the Orlando Pride were unbeaten for the regular season.

Winning 10 games and drawing 3, their stadium has turned into a fortress for the Pride. Well, their dominant 4-1 victory against the Chicago Red Stars at home in the quarterfinals showed what home advantage means to them. And it’s not the only positive momentum they would be banking on against the KC’s. Their NWSL Shield win for being the best season throughout the regular season could also play a key factor. What’s more is that, in the two matches they’ve played against each other this season, the Current hasn’t won either.

At home, they lost 1-2, and in Orlando’s backyard, they drew 0-0. So, it made sense why Brittany Mahomes wanted to pump up KC fans as much as she could before the semifinals kicked off. Sharing the Current’s post – which read, “One win away from the ‘ship. This is our moment” – Brittany wrote: LETSSS GOOOOOOOO! @kc current.” While the Pride are set to have the home advantage, what about Brittany’s team? Are they ready for the challenge away from home? They could be, as Orlando Pride is welcoming a team that hasn’t lost since September.

Have an interesting take?

Well, they didn’t only manage to stay unbeaten 10 in a row. They had 7 clean sheets, as their defense had mostly kept the attackers at bay. Even Orlando’s defense is not to be ignored. Over the regular season, they have conceded just 20 goals while shutting out their opponent’s offense with ease at times. However, Brittany’s team has a trump card of their own that could prove to be decisive.

Their forward, Temwa Chawinga, is their top scorer (and the league’s Golden Boot winner) with 24 goals this year. Her accuracy in front of the goal would either help the KC’s seal a massive victory or find themselves thwarted by the Pride’s defense. Moreover, although the Current finished fourth in the regular season standings, the franchise scored the most goals this season (57; a league record), made by 18 different players (another league record).

That said, as Brittany gets ready to watch this highly-anticipated NWSL clash, this will be the first Current match since news broke about the Mahomes household being targeted by robbers.

Update: The Current fell 2-3 to the top-ranked Pride after a stoppage-time penalty wasn’t enough to secure the win.

Even Patrick Mahomes expressed his frustration this week since the robbery that happened last month, “It’s frustrating, it’s disappointing. I can’t get into too many of the details because the investigation is ongoing, but obviously, it’s something you don’t wanna happen to anybody, obviously yourself.” With reports of breakthroughs slowing emerging out of the case, we do hope the FBI and Cass County Sheriff’s Office quickly find the suspects and help the Mahomes family get their belongings back.

Following the incident, the Chiefs quarterback took steps to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again. TMZ Sports reported that he’s beefed up security at his massive Missouri property… In the days after Mahomes’ Belton mansion was broken into, the Chiefs star heightened safety measures around his home.”
