Can Matt Ryan ever shake off the 28-3 Super Bowl choke, even with Brady's support?

Although Tom Brady has won Seven Super Bowl titles while cementing his place in NFL folklore, his fifth Super Bowl win could be the greatest of all time. Standing as a crown jewel in his NFL legacy, what happened that night still haunts many and gives goosebumps to some. Former Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan is one of those victims who still get nightmares thinking about that night at NRG Stadium.

Having transitioned from QB to broadcaster, the four-time Pro Bowler is joining CBS’s “The NFL Today” while suddenly finding himself in a tough spot. Sharing his thoughts, the ex-Falcons player stated, “Last year I went to New Orleans, walking into lunch I was like. This isn’t right.” Well, the retired QB, after seeing the Patriots practice, had brutal flashbacks from Super Bow LI, which the Patriots won 28-34, thereby completing a monumental comeback.

Remembering that historic Super Bowl loss, Ryan said, “It’s something that’s always there. The further you get removed, it doesn’t sting quite as much, but I don’t think it ever goes away.” However, Brady was the one who helped the then-Falcons QB process the loss. Sharing his story, the All-Pro expressed, “I’ll never forget he texted me that night after the game, and it meant a lot, just to reach out, given that situation, given everything.”

A lot happened that day, from the Falcons leading 21-3 at halftime to a Tom Brady-led comeback in the third quarter. As the game went into overtime with teams tied at 28-28, the Patriots won the toss and ended up retaining the ball. But a thunderous 75-yard rushing touchdown run by James White all but confirmed Patriots comeback at 28-34. However, it was Brady’s 466 passing yards and two touchdowns that played an integral role in clinching his fourth Super Bowl ring.

But this was not the only time the five-time NFL MVP winner showed his magic on the field. As a similar comeback was recorded a few years prior to that.

Tom Brady pulling yet another comeback from the jaws of defeat

Going into Super Bowl XLIX, Brady was gearing up for yet another comeback against the then-defending champions, Seattle Seahawks. With the Patriots down 10 points at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Brady authored another chapter in his illustrious career. His first drive through the Seahawks’ defense for 59 yards and a four-yard TD narrowed Seattle’s lead with the Patriots at 24-21. But it’s Brady we are talking about, as the seven-time Super Bowl champion soon went for a second drive for 66 yards.

His second drive of the night ended with a 3-yard TD, thereby giving his team the lead for the first time at 28-24. This all but confirmed the Patriots’ formidable comeback with Brady racking up 13-of-15 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the final quarter. Prior to this, the Patriots and Brady haven’t won anything in 10 years, with their last title win coming against the Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX.
