Can Sean Payton's offensive genius finally turn the Denver Broncos into serious contenders?

Bo Nix and Sean Payton are a match made in the gridiron heaven. Looks like the Broncos Country is finally going for a ride as Bo Nix has officially taken the wheels of the Denver football team. The whole thing gives Drew Brees-Saints vibes in a lot of scenarios. Earlier, Payton didn’t want to jinx his decision to make Nix the starter, but things have changed after the last pre-season game against the Packers.

Payton has iterated time and again that he sees flashes of Drew Brees in the rookie quarterback. The comment oozes a sense of Payton being impressed by Bo Nix, who will be the first Broncos rookie to start in the regular season since John Elway. That’s a huge deal and the hosts of NFL Live are hyped about it.

“This is going to be the New Orleans Saints offense with Drew Brees,” Mike Tannenbaum admitted on NFL Live. “Quick passing, you know, look for guys Marvin Mims, Courtland Sutton to have really meaningful participation with run after catch in the passing game. Javonte Williams will get tons of opportunities not only running but also in the passing game.”

Payton had been scouting Nix for a while and when asked about it back in May, he revealed that Nix was “exactly what we saw” and seemed a little bigger in person. His football quotient, his quickness, and his relationship with his receivers became clear in the last games against the Packers and the Colts. It is similar to how Drew Brees used to play for the Saints, with the resemblance seemingly uncanny.

In the Packers game, Nix threw a 23-yard pass to Courtland Sutton and there were three players on the receiver. His accuracy as a rookie is unparalleled. His touchdown pass to Tim Patrick in the same game is just a flawless example of what he can do under pressure. The Broncos won that game by a landslide with a final score of 27-2, where Nix went 8-9 in passes.

However, the Colts game was even better. Nix went 15-21 and even threw a touchdown to Marvin Mims Jr. Bo Nix praises just don’t stop coming in and he’s developing a pretty great relationship with Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick in the training camp as well. However, it doesn’t get any better than Sean Payton comparing Nix to Drew Brees.

Apart from noting that Nixlocates the ball well, and he’s accuratelike Brees, Payton also said, “I used to say this all the time: The sack numbers are a reflection more on the quarterback than the offensive line. Brees was one of those guys. He was a tough sack,” and that “The ball came out, and I think Bo has traits like that.”

Turns out, Nix didn’t take any sacks or throw any picks in both Packers and Colts games. Sean Payton must really be excited about what’s to come for his Denver team.

Following Nix’s near-flawless performance in the preseason game against the Packers, everyone from fans to the media personnel was sure that he was getting the starter job for week one. However, Payton declined to make any comments on the situation at that time. However, now, the NFL Live analyst Jeff Darlington was sure that Nix had “earned” the spot.

“You knew he wanted to scream from the rooftops that he found his guy,” said Darlington. “This is one of those great camp stories that we kind of thirst over because Bo Nix won this job. He went in there and took it over. This is a team that had Zach Wilson and Jarrett Stidham seemingly competing for maybe that week one starter job while Bo Nix got ready. Nix went in there and said, ‘No, no, I’m going to show you why this is going to be my job.”

Some are even confident that Nix might just steal the Rookie of the Year Award following a potentially great season. But that will become apparent as time goes by. The Denver team is playing against the Cardinals in the next preseason game and will visit Lumen Field to play against the Seahawks in week 1.
