After conquering the AFC West division and securing the No. 1 playoff seed, the Chiefs are set to play their last game of the season. Or wait a minute. Are they truly ready? With 15 wins in their column, Andy Reid‘s squad has been one of the best teams this season. But now, as the postseason approaches, the Chiefs have some major issues that need to be sorted. And it’s not just about Carson Wentz.
The Chiefs shared their injury report on their official X account. And guess what? Patrick Mahomes was limited in practice ahead of the season’s last game. The 29-year-old hurt his ankle back in Week 15 against the Browns. After that, with Carson Wentz in talks to start as QB, Mahomes eventually returned the following week against the Texans. So, is this just the team giving him a little breather, or is there something more going on? Only the Chiefs know for sure.
Patrick Mahomes, Mecole Hardman, Mike Pennel, and Trent McDuffie were limited in practice today.
Chris Jones, Isiah Pacheco, and Jawaan Taylor did not practice.

Mahomes isn’t the only one who might miss the final game. The Reds limited their cornerback, Trent McDuffie, in practice ahead of the Broncos game. There’s no word yet on whether he’s dealing with an injury or not. Fans are guessing it’s just a precautionary move with the playoffs right around the corner. This would certainly add to the Chiefs’ dilemma.
It’s starting to look like half the Reds’ team might be sitting out for week 18. Starting DE Chris Jones won’t be playing due to a calf injury. The Chiefs seem focused on giving their top players some rest before the postseason kicks off. Andy Reid also shared that RB Isiah Pacheco and OT Jawaan Taylor didn’t practice. “As far as the injuries go, Chris, Pacheco, and Jawaan won’t practice,” Reid said. Pacheco is dealing with a rib issue, while Taylor is nursing a knee injury.
The Chiefs’ precautionary moves might end up costing them the win. But does that even matter? It could make a big difference for the players stepping into starting roles, they’ll get a chance to prove themselves. And former Rams QB Carson Wentz is more than ready to seize the day.

Carson Wentz is all set to fill Mahomes’s shoes in the final week
After Patrick Mahomes hurt his right ankle, the Chiefs were ready to roll with Carson Wentz as their starting QB in Week 16. But just when it seemed like his moment had finally come, Mahomes jumped back in. Now, though, it’s Carson’s turn. With Showtime getting some rest, Carson’s stepping onto the gridiron to wrap up the regular season for the Chiefs. This game is huge for the former Rams QB as it’ll be his first game with the Chiefs as their starting QB.
What’s your perspective on:
Are the Chiefs risking it all by resting Mahomes, or is this a smart playoff strategy?
Have an interesting take?
Wentz has been hanging around as the backup QB for a couple of years now. With the Rams, he was just backing up Matthew Stafford and played only one game. Interestingly, he also played the Rams’ final game of the season. Guess you could say history’s kind of repeating itself here. “I’m excited, honestly. I might not show it right now, but I think last year and then this year, again, you learn to not take these opportunities for granted,” said Carson ahead of the Broncos game.

The 32-year-old also mentioned he’s focused on winning the last game for the Chiefs. It’ll be cool to see Wentz step up and grab that moment. Hopefully, he’ll keep the streak going by finishing strong for Mahomes and the Chiefs.
