Is Robert Saleh's backtracking a sign of weak leadership in handling Aaron Rodgers' situation?

Cadence had not been an issue all camp. Felt like our operation had been operating pretty well. Obviously, today took a major step back.” New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh said this in a post-game presser after the team stumbled in a Week 4 home loss against the Denver Broncos with 10-9.

In the game, Aaron Rodgers was unable to display his sharp football skills, as he was sacked five times without any touchdown. The 40-year-old even completed just 57% (24-of-42) of his passes for 225 yards, and hence, the team had to settle down with three Greg Zuerlein field goals. This made Saleh comment that the cadence on offense was an issue, though he didn’t particularly name Rodgers. As obvious, many started to believe there was an ongoing problem in the locker room. So now, as per analyst Mike Florio, Saleh has later backtracked to avoid creating tension with the quarterback.

In a recent episode of Sunday Night Football on NFL on NBC on October 1, analysts Mike Florio and Michael Holley discussed the ongoing tension between Robert Saleh and Aaron Rodgers. Florio highlighted that Rodgers, being a high-profile and experienced player, holds significant sway over the team.

He humorously mentioned, “After they had their meeting in Aaron Rogers office on Sunday and somebody had to sit there with a dunce cap on in the corner for a while and Aaron Rogers may be pointed out, ‘hey you’re 20 and 35, I’m 150 and 77. I think I know what works.’ (So) Robert Salah came out yesterday with the mopping bucket and cleaned up on aisle 5.”

With this “cleaning up on Aisle 5” comments to avoid Rodgers’ “island” by Saleh, the analyst humorously referred to a metaphor that means to avoid a potential fallout that can happen if someone crosses A-Rod. This is because, at present, Aaron Rodgers is more important and “secure” than others in the franchise.

Hence, according to Florio, Saleh quickly walked back his comments by saying, “….from a cadence standpoint, that’s part of what makes us who we are, and we’re going to continue to always push the envelope on that.”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Robert Saleh's backtracking a sign of weak leadership in handling Aaron Rodgers' situation?

Have an interesting take?

And now after these contradictory statements by Saleh, the NFL world is speculating an uneasiness in the locker room. So, what’s the truth?

Does Aaron Rodgers have a different take than Robert Saleh?

After Robert Saleh indirectly called cadence an issue, Aaron Rodgers was asked to give his take on it, when questioned by the reporters post-game. And guess what? The four-time MVP didn’t exactly agree with what Saleh said. Instead, he pointed out the other way, saying, “That’s one way to do it. The other way is to hold them accountable. I mean, we haven’t had an issue. We’ve had one false start…..It’s been a weapon. We use it every day in practice. We rarely have a false start.”

Now, soon after this, Saleh changed his comments, and this made many curious about their relationship, which even prompted after A-Rod pushed back the coach during the September 19 game, in an infamous non-hug incident.

However, clearing things up, Rodgers, during his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” exclaimed, “Rob and I have a great relationship; we have since day one when I got here. We have text message conversations, threads that we’re in, conversations about a number of different topics outside of football. We have a good friendship.”

So, this means, according to the Jets QB, everything is fine between the two, despite the ongoing feud rumors in the organization.
