Could Justin Fields be the answer to the Steelers' QB woes, or is it just wishful thinking?

The Steelers are debating about their number 1 quarterback for the last 2 weeks. While Russell Wilson struggles with a calf injury, Justin Fields has risen to the occasion. After 2 wins in the first 2 games, he is being touted as the number 1 choice for the starting position, even if the veteran gets fully fit. Analysts, too, are now weighing in between both of them.

Former QB Dan Orlovsky put forward his choice for the starting quarterback. Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up Show, he said, “He has done nothing but grow, develop, and take advantage of the opportunity. He’s upgrading cleanly. He’s not holding football.” His only condition was that Justin Fields take them to win against Chargers on 22nd of September. With such powerful support piling up in favor of the young QB, Russell Wilson might find it hard to return.

The biggest strongpoint of the QB’s game has been zero interceptions. He has no turnovers, helping the team to mount their offense on rivals. In week 1 game against Falcons, he recorded 17 out of 23 passes with 156 yards. Fields had 13 of 20 passes with 117 yards and a touchdown against Broncos. While these numbers must have been running through the analysts’s mind, he seemed influenced by the former Steelers QB, Ben Roethlisberger.

Talking about the game on Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, the ex-NFLer said, “Big test this week with the Chargers coming to town. To me, if Russ is healthy, I’m sticking with Justin. I said it last week I wouldn’t, but what I saw in week two. I think that he has earned and deserves the right to stay there.” The start of the season has been a whirlwind for Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.

Meanwhile, Head Coad Mike Tomlin gave an update about the week 3 game.

Could Justin Fields be the answer to the Steelers' QB woes, or is it just wishful thinking?

Have an interesting take?

There have been reports that once the veteran quarterback is fit, he might take over as the starting QB for Steelers. And there wouldn’t be much discussion about it. However, Mike Tomlin has put everything on hold for Russell Wilson (in week 3 game) as he isn’t fully fit yet. And he doesn’t want to waste any time thinking about any potential situation.

In the absence of the main-string QB, Justin Fields is basking in success. He recently launched his shoe collection with Reebok. The collection includes Nano X4 (training shoe), the FloatZig 1 (running shoe), and the Zig Dynamica 2.0 (youth-sized shoe). The collaboration is also unique, as Reebok gave him $30k for the Justin Fields Foundation.

And while Fields is expanding his collaborations, the Steelers’ locker room war is seeing its initial sparks. Russell Wilson is in the Steelers for 1 year. If he misses games, then his future might be in jeopardy. What do you think? When will he return? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
