“Lamar Jackson is going to become and be known and be recognized as the greatest quarterback ever to play in the history of the National Football League.” That’s a strong statement coming from John Harbaugh considering how players like Patrick Mahomes are the trailblazers of the league. But if not the greatest QB ever, what really are the expectations from Lamar Jackson?
The statement from Harbaugh ignited a debate on SPEAK and there was no dearth of advice coming Lamar Jackson’s way. The common consensus is, that even if he’s not the greatest of this generation right now, the 2x MVP should set high standards for his career going forward. Amidst this discussion, he drew comparisons to people like Steph Curry, Cam Newton, and even Michael Vick.
“I think a realistic expectation for Lamar Jackson, changing the narrative that ‘yo you can be a dual threat quarterback and win a Super Bowl.’ You can be a dual threat quarterback and be one of the best in the league. We look at guys like Cam Newton right, we look at guys like Michael Vick, Randall Cunningham, all these guys we talk about how special they were, but nobody ever puts these guys as elites of the elites. I think Lamar Jackson can change that though,” said LeSean McCoy about Lamar Jackson, urging him to ignore John Harbaugh’s praise for the QB.

Speaking of Cam Newton, he had the same advice for Lamar Jackson. Per Newton, the 2x MVP should focus on winning “ugly” games, the ones that really matter. The AFC Championship upset against the Kansas City Chiefs might have put Lamar’s credibility under scrutiny. Jackson didn’t show accuracy in the game, completing only 54.1% of his passes and only scoring a single touchdown. For a dual-threat QB, Jackson didn’t rush for a touchdown either.
The Chiefs’ defense was so solid that they didn’t let Jackson score more than 10 points throughout the game! This year, Lamar Jackson might have to reevaluate his play style and bank on his dual-threat capabilities to get a substantial result. If that doesn’t happen, spectators might put the Baltimore Ravens in the same category as the Miami Dolphins, who seem to be unable to beat playoff-worthy teams in any given circumstance.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Lamar Jackson really surpass Cam Newton, or is he just another overhyped player?
Have an interesting take?
While eyes remain on all players of the side, it is surely Lamar Jackson who has the most pressure to bear. The word “GOAT” is thrown around too casually these days but what would Lamar Jackson have to do to become a pioneer of the game? It’s a long road, but it starts with winning championship games. Also, Jackson must take his team to a Super Bowl with the kind of roster he has around him. While currently there is no agreement to Harbaugh’s statement of Jackson being the greatest QB despite 2 MVPs, his ability to become a sole game-changer during crunch times for the Ravens could turn things in his favor.
In the sight of the discussion of progress and the current title the QB hosts, Joy Taylor on the show had more insight to offer about Lamar Jackson’s situation and how he can change the league forever.
How will Lamar Jackson be remembered down the line?

Joy Taylor on the show started the debate with the infamous parable, “Aim for the moon, land on a star.” She then proceeded to compare Jackson to 4x NBA Championship winner Stephen Curry. “When you think of someone like a Steph Curry as the greatest player of all time, they might call him the greatest shooter of all time, but no one really refers to Steph as the greatest player of all time. However, most people unanimously think that his influence on the game can be seen on every single level internationally. He’s transformed how the game of basketball is played.”
There’s some truth to what Joy Taylor said. For a long time, the NBA relied on playmaking and getting in the paint to score buckets. Then Steph Curry came along like a 3-pointer machine and started demolishing the league and changed the game forever. Now, taking deep shots is not a taboo anymore. How is this logic applicable to Lamar Jackson?

Well, the Baltimore star is the best dual-threat quarterback in the league, making him a one-of-a-kind position holder, much like Curry. Last season, he led the league in rushing yards. Harbaugh’s famous run game has enough room to accommodate Lamar Jackson scrambling for yards even in some situations where he can just get away with passing the ball. From time to time, Jackson puts up running back stats when it comes to rushing the ball, a quality that is also synonymous with players like Cam Newton.
We are already witnessing faint echoes of Lamar Jackson’s game in other people. The rookie Jayden Daniels led the NCAA in rushing yards and is prepared to bring the same energy to the league right now. So, Lamar’s legacy is already spreading like wildfire with more players adopting his dual-threat approach with each passing day. With that, do you think Jackson is the current best QB? Or will host the impact to grab that title? Let us know below!
