Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs kicker’s recent speech at Benedictine College, has sparked a lot of controversies. Butker shared his views on several sensitive topics, which many found offensive and out of touch. His reference to a Taylor Swift lyric, especially considering Swift is dating Butker’s teammate Travis Kelce, further fueled the backlash.
Now, a former Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader, Stefanie Hills, has criticized Harrison for his various statements. Stefanie said Harrison‘s comments were not aligned with the kind of public relations training that members of Chiefs Cheer receive. Hills’ video has been already viewed nearly 3 million times.

She said, “You are no longer ‘just’ Harrison Butker. You are now Harrison Butker who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs,“ she said in her video. She further noted, “Not entirely sure if that last part is gonna apply to you but I guess we’ll find out.”

In her video, Stefanie highlighted their shared background as members of the Chiefs organization and pointed out that they likely received the same PR training. Hills took issue with several parts of Harrison’s speech. For instance, Butker referred to the COVID pandemic as a “fiasco” and criticized Biden, calling him the “man behind the COVID lockdowns.” Stefanie responded, “COVID fiasco? Now I would assume you know what fiasco means, but just in case you don’t, you’re referring to the pandemic as a humiliating failure? You know, we had an entire [bleeping] PR training on COVID, bruh. We weren’t supposed to talk about it.”
However, apart from the topics Stefanie has shed light on Harrison also talked about other stuff. He included Taylor Swift in the speech and referred to pop superstar Taylor Swift as “my teammate’s girlfriend”.

He quoted her song “Bejeweled“ by saying, “As my teammate’s girlfriend says, ‘Familiarity breeds contempt.’” He further told the graduates, “How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?” He continued, “I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”
The reference to Taylor Swift, a globally recognized pop star with numerous accolades, added fuel to the fire. Swift’s impressive career achievements starkly contrasted with Harrison’s comments on women’s primary roles being marriage and motherhood. This sentiment has sparked a wider conversation about gender roles and the importance of recognizing and supporting women’s diverse ambitions.
