The war between Kansas and Missouri is still on! For a long time, there have been multiple attempts made to shift the two major KC teams to the Sunflower State. But the Show-Me State isn’t letting that happen so easily. They are struggling hard to keep Patrick Mahomes’s Kansas City Chiefs and Salvador Pérez’s Kansas City Royals within themselves. But will that happen?
In June this year, KC Mayor Quinton Lucas expressed the aggressive $400 million+ offer by saying, “I’m not going to be the one to talk about confidential negotiations, but the city of Kansas City, myself, I have been in meetings booked to put forward at least an offer of $400 million plus for one of our professional franchises to stay within the city.” And now the big update has been out!
KC radio host Bob Fescoe on X announced “We will have updated stadium news for you tomorrow morning. Sounds like we could be hearing soon where the Royals and Chiefs will be playing!” The host called out the followers to tune in to his show “@TheFan965” and get to know a major update on the stadium.

Well, now it remains to be seen what’s coming up next for the Chiefs and Royals, as well as KC & Missouri. Until then, in Kansas, lawmakers have already passed a tax incentive bill to attract sports teams, which could help finance stadiums for any teams willing to make the move. This new legislation will allow Kansas to cover up to 70% of the stadium costs using STAR bonds.
Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs’s new stadium could cost around $2 billion, with a new Royals stadium potentially adding another $1.5 billion. Despite the Kansas legislation, the Chiefs and Royals have not committed to a move and are simply viewing it as an option. Their final decision will likely come closer to 2031 when their lease at the Truman Sports Complex expires.

Will Patrick Mahomes’s Chiefs stay in Missouri?
Patrick Mahomes’s Kansas City Chiefs are at a crossroads. Will they stay in Missouri, where they’ve called home for decades, or make the jump across the state line to Kansas? It’s a huge decision, and both states are in the game, vying to keep or win over the Chiefs. Kansas is pulling out all the stops, offering STAR Bonds to fund a new stadium. Under this plan, sales tax, sports bet–ing, and lottery dollars would cover stadium costs, with any extra revenue eventually flowing back to Kansas after 30 years. It’s a bold offer that’s hard to ignore.

Will Kansas City Chiefs fans accept a move to Kansas, or is Missouri their true home?

But Missouri isn’t giving up without a fight. Chiefs President Mark Donovan revealed they’re having “significant” discussions with leaders in Missouri. And while the Kansas incentives are tempting, Donovan hinted there’s a lot to consider before deciding. On the other hand, Arrowhead Stadium isn’t out of the running, either. Renovating their iconic home is still very much an option, keeping the Chiefs’s deep roots firmly planted in Missouri soil.

And of course, Mahomes too wants to stay at home, as he already mentioned – “I love it, man. I love the people… The people are what make the city and they embrace you….The people make the city. The best part of Kansas City is that they love it but they embrace everybody that comes to the games. They tailgate it.” So, all in all, for the Chiefs fans, it’s a waiting game to see where their beloved team will ultimately stand.
