Kelly Stafford hilariously confessed to dating a backup QB to get under her now-husband’s skin, and it surprisingly worked like a charm! Los Angeles Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford’s wife recently posted an IG story of herself and her husband while they celebrated a friend’s birthday. This follows a lighthearted disclosure of the couple’s early years at the University of Georgia (UGA).

Stafford’s wife, Kelly, recently revealed on the podcast Off the Vine that she used a calculated (if a little cheeky) approach to get the Rams’ QB’s attention. She asserted that their relationship “wasn’t that cute at first,” and while things weren’t always sunshine and roses (after their marriage in 2015), she still “loved him.”

Kelly disclosed, attempting to elicit a response, “I dated the backup QB to p*ss [Matthew] off, which worked.” It appears that this “bad boy” QB turned off Stafford, who is renowned for his Southern gentlemanliness. The 35-year-old revealed that the QBs were even roommates, which increased the tension and added another level of mystery to the issue. Kelly firmly stated, “They lived in the same dorm room. [Matthew] would see my car there. At one point, he followed me into the car. I was like, ‘This is amazing; it’s working’.”

As seen by their current happiness, Kelly’s plan finally backfired in the most wonderful way possible. However, sports fans scramble over the ex-backup QB.

Fans uncover the mystery backup QB

Kelly Stafford’s recent revelation of dating a backup QB set off a chain of social media comments. Her previous relationship ploy amused some admirers, while others questioned her judgment. From lighthearted remarks like “gotta stay away from these kinds” to allegations that she may shame her spouse and kids, the comments were varied. The revelation also set off a small-scale mystery as followers tried to piece together the identity of the unidentified ex-boyfriend by using the dorm room occupancy and Stafford’s collegiate QB background.

Rams’ QB Matthew Stafford was drafted first overall in 2009 by the Detroit Lions. Ranking in the top 12 of all-time in pass attempts, he’s the fastest player to have reached 40,000 career passing yards. Before his NFL debut, he played for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2006 to 2008. Back in the day, Stafford had two backups on the roster: Joe Tereshinski (first season) and Joe Cox. Since Kelly mentioned the mystery man who shared a dorm room with Stafford, fans believed it to be Cox.

While fans’ QB guesses sparked a media buzz over Kelly’s past, the star couple laughed it off. It seems Stafford himself has no issues over the matter, even though some fans find it problematic.
