Could a Rodgers-Adams reunion make the Jets serious Super Bowl contenders?

Remember the telepathic connection between Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams that turned Lambeau Field into a highlight reel factory? Get ready for a potential reunion that could make Gang Green’s offense the hottest ticket in town. Former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky just dropped a bombshell on Get Up ESPN, declaring, “I think Davante Adams plays for the Jets this season.” Spicy take, right? But Orlovsky has a few reasons for the bold claim.

The 40-year-old referenced the frustration simmering beneath the surface for Adams in Vegas, drawing a parallel to his portrayal in the Netflix series, Receiver. He reasoned that loyalty to his new HC Antonio Pierce might be the only thing keeping Adams with the Raiders. Besides, Derek Carr’s exit from the team cast a long shadow. “The Raiders don’t matter until they get a QB,” Orlovsky declared. “I don’t care what anybody says!”

The former Lions’ QB also pointed out the Jets have already committed big bucks, and acquiring Adams could be the missing piece for a Super Bowl run. He warned, “If [the Jets] don’t win the Super Bowl, this is going to be one of the most disappointing acquisitions and wasted talented teams.” The pressure is on, and Orlovsky believes the Jets would be foolish to not make a move.

While A-Rod’s Achilles injury last season may have temporarily squashed those trade dreams, the rumors are far from dead. Ex-Jets’ QB Boomer Esiason predicted a Rodgers-Adams reunion is “certain” and could most likely happen as late as August or September. He even mentioned a hefty price tag, with a potential $25M cap hit for the NYJ. Guess it’s about time the New York team makes some tough calls.

Jets’ pursuit of Adams: Reuniting the Rodgers-Adams connection

The NYJ are circling back on Adams, hoping to recapture that lightning by reuniting the future Hall of Fame QB with his most trusted weapon. Gang Green reportedly chased the star WR at last year’s trade deadline, and whispers are now swirling after A-Rod declared, “I can’t wait to play with [Adams] again.”

The Jets already have a solid receiving core with Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, and others. Adding Davante Adams would be a total game-changer, given his stats: 103 catches for 1,144 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2023. The price tag, however, could be hefty. But the Jets ain’t shy about trading draft picks for proven stars—just look at how they went all-in for A-Rod last year.

Have an interesting take?

This time, the Raiders might also be more open to a trade. Adams was a stud in his prime, but hitting age 32 could hint at a decline. Plus, it could be a chance for the Vegas team to get back some of the draft capital they invested in him initially. The question is, will the Jets pull the trigger on reuniting Rodgers and Adams? While it won’t be cheap, it could definitely be a Super Bowl gamble!
