Can Garrett Wilson really hit 1,500 yards with Rodgers, or is Namath just being overly optimistic?

Soon to be a Hall of Famer QB, the New York Jets’ 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers couldn’t hold his excitement after his team finished their joint practice against the Giants. Running down the field to greet WR Garrett Wilson while the fans chanted “J-E-T-S!” Florham Park was on its edge on Wednesday afternoon.

Going back a few moments, the four-time MVP was seen connecting with the Jets WR for a flawlessly placed pass that left the Giants CB Nick McCloud on the ground. Finishing up a 55-yard TD by walking into the end zone, Wilson showed glimpses of what can be expected from him in the upcoming season.

Speaking on the same, former Jets great Brandon Marshall opened up on his views to Caroline Hendershot, a reporter for the Jets. “How big can this kid be? He can be the best. His ability, his heart, is up there with the Justin Jefferson’s, it’s up there with the Davante Adams, & so on & so forth,” said the Jets legend. Citing his reasons, Marshall added, “I’m excited to see Garrett Wilson really break through this year. Obviously, he’s going over 1,000, but can he be a 1,4000 or 1,500-yard receiver?”

Well, the six-time Pro bowler ended his appreciation for Wilson by posing a question for A-Rod on whether he would be able to unlock the WR’s true potential. However, Marshall isn’t the only one who is excited for the Jets WR, as A-Rod seemingly threw a challenge to him after their joint practice concluded against the Giants.

“For Garrett, I just want to see his leadership role continue to expand, and his route tree to expand, and for his instincts to continue further, but I’m really proud of him,” stated the veteran QB. After getting drafted back in 2022, Wilson has recorded back-to-back seasons with 1000 yards. But for this season, the expectations are moving higher as A-Rod is coming back from an ACL injury that ended his first season for the Jets prematurely.

However, with the regular season coming up, Wilson would be hoping his spark against the Panthers and domination against the Commanders during preseason can help his case. But when it comes to Rodgers’ impact on other players’ games, this isn’t the first time.

How has Aaron Rodgers helped his teammates up their game in the NFL?

When it comes to helping his teammates, A-Rod has quite a few on his resume. His former teammate Jordan Love, who sat behind Rodgers for three seasons in Green Bay, revealed a message that the 10-time Pro Bowler sent him before his first training camp practice, “Aaron reached out to me last night, and that’s exactly what he said. Just be yourself, have fun, enjoy it. That it’s obviously my time now and to enjoy it.”

Love also expressed that he learned a lot from the Super Bowl champion by observing his footwork, passes, practices, and how he operates every day. But he isn’t the only one who is learning from Rodgers. As Wilson shared a moment with the veteran QB when he pointed out a mistake that the WR made: “Get it right. Know your details.” Well, Rodgers isn’t someone who forgives his players for mistakes they commit while practicing with him.

Receiver Allen Lazardwho spent five seasons with the Pro Bowler back at Green Bay, recently joined the Jets in free agency. And, speaking about Rodgers’s impact on players, he said, “Not to say that he was hard to play with at first in Green Bay, but he was a little bit more like, You guys have got to pick up.” Citing the reason behind A-Rod’s behavior, Lazard conveyed that the QB plays in a ‘state of flow.’ This makes it difficult for anyone to make mistakes and not get pointed out by the four-time NFL MVP.

But can A-Rod rediscover his form after suffering a career-ending injury while the Jets struggled without him? As fans, we can only wait as the regular season approaches, with Rodgers having a lot on his hands in a do-or-die season.
