The 2024 NFL Draft is underfoot and has been a fount of surprising moments. One such moment was the New York Jets picking Olu Fashanu out of Penn State at #11 and their star QB Aaron Rodgers’ apparent discontent over the choice.

Despite being out for the whole season, Rodgers had been vested in the New York Jets. Off the field, he has been coaching his peers and it’s safe to assume that he has some say in what goes on with the Jets roster. Though the offensive tackle had been garnering some attention, Rodgers thinks that picking him might not have been the best use of the No. 11 pick.

Rodgers spoke to Pat McAfee in the wake of this draft and gave his thoughts about this choice that his Jets have made.  Rodgers gave his reasons why this might not have been a wise move. “We already made moves in the off-season,” Rodgers clarified, adding, “It wasn’t necessarily top of the needs, but I know that they really loved Olu and I love what Joe did, moving back.”

Instead of picking Fashanu, the Jets could have drafted Brock Bowers but instead chose to draft a tackle to try and shield Rodgers. Maybe Joe Douglas’ decision will pay off in the future. However, it’s not like Aaron Rodgers has a problem with Fashanu. In fact, he welcomed him to the Jets organization with a video from the New York Jets sharing a heartwarming moment between Fashnu, his family, and friends.

The video shows Fashanu speaking on the phone. When the call was over, he said, “New York Jets” and everyone around him started cheering and shouting, celebrating the landmark in Fashanu’s life. But it’s not only Aaron Rodgers who’s got something to say about this draft.

RGIII chimes in on Fashanu going to the Jets

The veteran QB pointed out how the Jets lagged Super Bowl depth, despite having a decent roster. “The Jets have a SUPER BOWL ROSTER but need Super Bowl Depth. Olu Fashanu gets them closer to it and helps them protect their 40-year-old QB coming off an Achilles tear,” wrote Griffin on X.
