The last few years have been a rough patch for the Jets. Despite having some of the best names on their roster, the team has yet to make a significant impact. Aaron Rodgers, their former quarterback, was likewise unable to elevate the team’s status. If you recall, there was another quarterback who attempted to tank defenses while leading the team, but he too failed. Yep! We’re talking about Zach Wilson, who led the squad to a 7-10 record in 2023. There was a lot of anticipation about the 25-year-old, but his season did not live up to expectations. And after two years, now it is revealed why it happened.

Everyone is aware that Zach Wilson signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. The contract contains $6 million in guaranteed money, which can be increased to $10 million with performance-based incentives. This contract appears to have revived Wilson’s career for the time being. And once again there’s a lot of buzz surrounding him leading to some exclusive interviews. One of these was with the SunSentinel where the quarterback discussed how pressure ruined his 2023 season.

Wilson was selected by the Jets as the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Obviously, players who are taken high in the draft are under pressure to justify their selection. And, while the 25-year-old never experienced this level of pressure during his rookie year, it eventually caught up with him in 2023. He explained, “It was challenging. There are things, looking back, I wish I could’ve done so much better, maybe would’ve approached differently, but I think, at the end of the day, it’s all part of the story.”

Zach Wilson’s stint with the Jets was definitely a difficult start to his career. But, this start has prepared the QB for whatever comes his way in the future. In 2023, the quarterback played 12 games and had a 77.2 throw rating, 2,271 yards, 8 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. And this season resulted in him being traded by the Jets to the Broncos, where he spent the 2024 season warming the bench.

But, 2025 could have delivered Wilson the big break he had been yearning for. The QB has admitted that during his time with the Jets, he always wanted to play for one team. And now he’s in it.

In the same interview, Zach Wilson mentioned these details, as well as his enthusiasm about playing for the Dolphins. The quarterback admitted that while the Broncos were a terrific opportunity for him, he had wanted to play for the Dolphins for a long time. Wilson explaining why he did not go with Sean Payton’s team said, “It was kind of just a different way of looking at the game. I thought they did a great job of bringing the entire team together.
