Mike Tomlin is throwing some wild surprises in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He had a great meeting with rookie QB Shedeur Sanders a few days back. The rookie even praised the Steelers head coach, calling him similar to his father Coach Prime Deion Sanders. But wait! The Steel City also hosted the veteran QB Aaron Rodgers, who came in disguise. Tomlin threw a card so wild that fans couldn’t believe what was happening.

While discussing the situation with Peter Schrager on NFL on ESPN show during the draft, Pat McAfee asked why the Steelers ignored the Colorado quarterback. The analyst replied, “I thought it was the one place for Shedeur. I know he had a good meeting with Tomlin, I know he had a decent meeting that was 5 hours long. Truth of the matter is, if you are in the Aaron Rodgers game, and you are trying to convince Aaron Rodgers to come. And if you are still trying to be in the Aaron Rodgers game, the last thing you would do would be to draft a quarterback tonight.

By ignoring the Colorado QB, Mike Tomlin & co has put Pittsburgh’s brain fog over their QB position on display again. This is an overarching story that goes back to last season, when they signed Justin Fields with the view of making him the starter, only to bring in Russell Wilson later for the same. This offseason, the Black and Gold has let both of them go (despite allegedly assuring Russ he’d stay) and only has Mason Rudolph as a recognizable figure in the QB room.

Mike Tomlin seems keen to assure A-Rod of his starting position with this move. The last time A-Rod had to contend with a rookie QB in the locker room was when the Packers drafted Jordan Love. The SB winner had an outburst. HC Matt LaFleur confirmed this and revealed, “I think he was shocked.” Even the Jets didn’t soften their touch while letting go of him, despite Rodgers reportedly pleading with them to continue.

This year, the Steelers are making shocking moves. Shedeur was shocked as well.
