Is Aaron Rodgers' time with the Jets nearing its end, or can he still turn it around?

Although the results from this year’s presidential elections gave us a new leader for the next four years, the Jets could find themselves without one as soon as Donald Trump enters the White House. Yes, you heard that right. Jets owner Woody Johnson could leave his post in New York yet again before next season.

There are a bunch of Jets employees who believe that Johnson may acquire a political post in the Trump administration, as reported by CBS Sports. Having served as the Ambassador to the United Kingdom for 3 1/2 years during Trump’s first Presidential run, Johnson is again speculated to be heading back to London. During his absence, Woody passed on the torch to his brother, Christopher. However, Christopher’s record isn’t something that would excite the Jets fans if Johnson does leave.

Over the four seasons, he was in charge of daily operations. And the Jets fired Todd Bowles and then hired Adam Gase. Well, he didn’t stop on the coaches, as general manager Mike Maccagnan was sacked soon after. And the Jets replaced him with Joe Douglas. But Johnson wasn’t really involved in the hiring of Douglas, unlike the man he fired this season.

When Robert Saleh was hired back in January 2021, Johnson was “aware of the direction the Robert hiring was going because he was returning.” However, after four seasons at the helm in New York, Saleh was sacked five games into the season. And by doing so, he also broke his own 25-year record of not sacking a head coach mid-season.

Well, Douglas was also asked about Johnson’s probable departure from New York, “whatever happens, whatever.” With him as the general manager, the Jets’ record isn’t great either. Heading into the Cardinals clash this weekend, the Jets hold a 30-62 record under Douglas. In a season that was supposed to be a redemption arc for Rodgers. It is turning out to be yet another nightmare for the Jets fans. Having lost five consecutive games before the win against the Texans, Saleh’s firing hasn’t done any good to the Jets season. Their veteran QB Aaron Rodgers could also leave the Jets before next season, thereby kickstarting a new era in New York.

Is Aaron Rodgers’ time in New York coming to an end?

Woody Johnson has already turned the Jets into a dysfunctional franchise after firing Saleh without consulting anyone. Deciding on his own conscience, Johnson didn’t even ask his general manager, Douglas, before pulling the plug on Saleh. Even the decision to bring back long-time holdout Haason Reddick was a decision taken by Johnson only. However, it was Rodgers who was taking most of the blame because of his poor performance on the gridiron.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Aaron Rodgers' time with the Jets nearing its end, or can he still turn it around?

Have an interesting take?

If the Jets do miss out on a playoff spot after waiting for 13 years, Rodgers could well be shown the door. With only a year remaining on his contract, the Jets could save $10 million by cutting him down. Otherwise, the Jets could also look for a trade deal that can send Rodgers elsewhere. But the 40-year-old doesn’t have such a clause on his contract. So, the final option would be to retire and pack his bags before the start of next season.

Although it’s still highly unlikely Rodgers would leave New York, considering the team he has probably assembled for himself. Going back to his Green Bay days, Rodgers did take some time to think about his next decision. Will the same thing happen in New York, as his owner is set to seek out a role in the Trump administration next year? Well, the chances are high, as the Jets had already called this season do or die before it even began.
