The hunt for a head coach is on. After Black Monday, when a bunch of head coaches and GMs got the boot, teams are already looking for replacements. The Jets, Bears, Jaguars, and Pats, all of whom had disappointing seasons, are exploring their options. The Aaron Rodgers-led Jets have already interviewed a few potential candidates for the head coach spot and are eyeing more. Looks like this time Woody Johnson wants to pick the best candidate for his team. Hopefully, he won’t be looking at Madden Ratings this time. But wait, the coaches don’t have Madden Ratings (they got spared).
In the ongoing search for their new head coach for the 2025 season, Aaron Rodgers’ team has requested an interview with the Chiefs‘ defensive coordinator. According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the Jets and Raiders have knocked on Steve Spagnuolo‘s door to lead their team next season. Spagnuolo has been with the Chiefs for five years. And during that time, he’s helped lead the team to three Super Bowl victories (talk about a successful run). No wonder teams are chasing him to end their Super Bowl drought. Wondering if Steve will interview for these teams? Well, Albert Breer got the answer — he’s going to interview with both of them!
This will be the Jets’ fifth interview for their head coach spot. Woody Johnson’s team has already interviewed former Pats player and ex-Titans coach Mike Vrabel, plus Super Bowl XX winner Ron Rivera, and also the Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. After firing Robert Saleh mid-season, the Jets kept Jeff Ulbrich on for the rest of the season and now, they’re looking to replace Ulbrich, too. The team also interviewed former coach Rex Ryan, who’s been eyeing the position for a while. Ryan has been pushing for the job since October this season. The ex-Jets coach is already making big promises, even before getting the green light from the team.

Rex Ryan bashed Aaron Rodgers, promising to bring the Jets back on track
The former Jets coach, Rex Ryan, isn’t holding back with his promises. Ryan, who coached the Jets for six years, claims he’s the best-suited candidate for the team’s head coach. “The reason I think I’m going to get it is because I’m the best guy for the job and it ain’t close,” said Ryan. The team made their last postseason appearance back in 2010 under his mentorship. Fourteen years without making it past the regular season—that’s a long drought! Anyway, Ryan not only promised to end this drought but also took a shot at QB Aaron Rodgers for his choices.
Last year, Rodgers decided to take a vacation in Egypt instead of attending the Jets’ minicamp in June before the season kicked off. Throwing some criticism on his way, the ex-Jets coach said, “Clearly, when you have a guy that doesn’t show up for mandatory minicamp — and by the way, he’s your quarterback coming off an injury — I think that’s an absolutely ridiculous message you send to the team.”
Aaron Rodgers better watch out if Rex becomes the head coach, and, of course, if he’s still the QB next season. There’s no way Coach Rex is going to entertain any vacations during the team’s camps. “If he’s back, it ain’t gonna be the country club. Show up whenever the hell you want to show up. That ain’t gonna happen,” added Ryan.

Anyway, the Jets are still to make a decision. They’re also considering interviewing 49ers offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Woody Johnson’s team has also requested interviews with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and other coordinators. So, whether or not Rex will be back with the Jets is still up in the air.
