Can Aaron Rodgers really dethrone Patrick Mahomes and end the Chiefs' three-peat dreams?

The Kansas City Chiefs are on their way to building a dynasty until someone spoils their hopes of doing so. However, none of the franchises seems capable of stopping the reigning champions led by two-time MVP QB Patrick Mahomes. But there could be someone lurking behind the shadows, waiting for his opportunity to pounce after a massive setback of his own.

Aaron Rodgers’ Jets could be the roadblock that can stop the juggernaut Chiefs, as per Mike Greenberg’s thoughts on the show Get Up ESPN. Citing his reasons, Greenberg states, “If Aaron Rodgers stays healthy, the Jets are absolutely the biggest threat to Patrick Mahomes 3-peat in the conference. They have the best defense of anybody, with the possible exception of Cleveland, and they have the most proven quarterback. He is Aaron Rodgers, for crying out loud.”

Although many would question Greenberg’s claims of the Jets stopping the Chief’s 3-peat, the other QBs in the league, like Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson, lost their opportunities to stop Mahomes after each of their teams lost against them in playoff runs. But with a returning four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, the stakes are high at MetLife Stadium.

Even though he only managed to play four snaps in his first season with the Jets, A-Rod’s talents cannot be questioned. Moreover, Greenberg isn’t the only one backing the Jets to do phenomenally this season, as former Packers’ QB Brett Favre had a similar opinion. Speaking on the Zach Gelb show, Favre stated, “If Aaron’s healthy. I expect what everyone else expects. That he leads that team to potentially a championship.”

Well, Favre was quick to express his reason behind such claims, “When you’ve got a really good defense, you got a chance. Now throw Aaron into the mix, and you know there is probably not a better playmaker at quarterback starting in the league right now.” Looking back at his praise for Jets defense, he might not be wrong, as it ranked within the top 10 for the second consecutive season. Therefore, it could play a pivotal role in stopping Mahomes.

Going back to last season, the Jets already teased about their potential when they came close to beating the Chiefs 23-20 in October. In that match-up, the Jets’ defense showed flashes of their brilliance when they picked off Mahomes twice. And, with A-Rod joining back the team, more excitement could be building up as the ten-time Pro Bowler continues to lead from the front.

Will Aaron Rodgers guide the Jets to success in a do-or-die season?

It has been 13 years since the Jets last managed to qualify for the playoffs. With Rodgers injured last season, the hopes of them returning were evaporating quickly. However, Aaron Rodgers recently unleashed a throw from 55 yards that directly landed in the hands of Garrett Wilson, and everyone’s hopes were renewed.

But keeping their hopes in check, the Jets CB Sauce Gardner stated, “Like I learned last year. Things can be taken away from you at the snap of a finger.” Although he has referred to the Jets losing their leader last season, A-Rod is hoping for a better outcome this season. Speaking back in May, Rodgers expressed, “Well, I think if I don’t do what I know I’m capable of doing. We’re all probably going to be out there.”

Even though Rodgers didn’t see any preseason action this year, Saleh spoke highly about the All-Pro coming back, “I felt like he was where we needed him when he first walked in. I’m telling you, his arm is still 30. And he’s got plenty of mobility. I think he is absolutely ready to go.” Well, A-Rod would also be hoping he pulls the Jets out of the darkness for which he was initially brought into the roster.

Gardner also remains hopeful about the Jets’ chances of stopping the Chiefs when he said, “I feel like we can win a championship, a Super Bowl. We got the guys. We got the coaches. We got everything we need.” But as the regular season draws closer, will we see the Jets turning around their fortunes compared to the last few seasons? Or will all the hopes go down the drain as post-ACL Aaron Rodgers is expected to lead the charge this time around?
