Aaron Rodgers skipping minicamp—Genius move or a slap in the face to his teammates?

Aaron Rodgers: master troll or social media mystery man? The internet is in a frenzy after the New York Jets’ official X account seemingly dropped a bombshell on everyone. They tweeted a picture of a relaxed Rodgers (with grey cat-print shirt and comfy slip-ons) with a friendly, “Good morning, @AaronRodgers12!”

Hold your horses, Jets fans! Before you start clearing out closet space for green jerseys, it appears A-Rod might’ve been pulling a fast one on everyone. Haven’t you heard? The NYJ star QB’s been getting roasted for skipping OTAs.

As expected, fans went wild in the comments, mixing confusion with a whole lot of laughs. One user was like, “Obviously [Aaron] Rodgers is trolling everyone!” Another chimed in about Rodgers’ “white girl arm tattoos,” adding to the lighthearted jab. One fan cracked up over A-Rod’s cat-print gear, saying “Morning. Think I’m gonna need a coffee to tackle today’s agenda. What’s on your mind?” while another called it, “Coolest cat on planet earth right there!”

One hopeful fan declared, “Would be a better morning if I had Aaron Rodgers’ jersey in my hand,” highlighting the excitement Rodgers’ presence would generate. However, not everyone was caught up in the hype. One skeptic user threw shade, asking, “What about voluntary minicamp?” hinting at A-Rod skipping the Jets’ OTAs. Another fan got cheeky, quipping, “They gon talk about how he should’ve came an hour early!”—a playful jab at the media’s likely nitpicking.

A particularly cynical user took things a step further, predicting, “Can’t wait for @ProFootballTalk article breaking down his shirt choice and how it’s actually bad for the Jets and makes him a bad teammate.” So, was it really a bad call for the Jets’ QB to miss the OTAs?

Have an interesting take?

“They can just call any random OTA session ‘minicamp’ these days,” the 40-year-old scoffed on the Pardon My Take podcast. Per Rodgers, mandatory minicamps are just fancy OTAs, which are usually voluntary. He even reminisced about the old-school minicamps—three days of intense training with five practices. “Those were the real deal,” Rodgers said. Compared to today’s easy two-practice minicamps, it’s no wonder he’s not cutting short his dream vacation in Egypt.

Coach Robert Saleh confirmed Rodgers had informed the team well in advance about his travel plans. Saleh even said he supported Rodgers’ decision, despite the QB’s absence being deemed “unexcused” by the NFL.

With training camp looming, all eyes are on Aaron Rodgers and his surgically repaired Achilles. The good news? He claims his leg’s all healed up, and he’s ready to hit the ground running. Whether his off-season shenanigans will pay off on the field is still up in the air. One thing’s for sure: A-Rod knows how to keep things interesting.
