Is Aaron Rodgers' era of dominance officially over after that shaky win against the Titans?

In a season that is supposed to define the future of Aaron Rodgers’ tenure as Jets QB. The four-time NFL MVP rose up to the occasion to help his team win their first game of the regular season. As the 20-year-old veteran QB made the plays, the Nissan Stadium might have witnessed the start of a comeback that most of them ruled out at the beginning.

Although Rodgers, for now, has won the hearts of Jets fans by grabbing a 24-17 victory against the Titans. His biggest critic, Colin Cowherd, wasn’t impressed with the 40-year-old’s display in Tennessee. Opening up on his thoughts in The Herd, Cowherd stated, “Aaron Rodgers is no longer an elite athlete or a mobile quarterback, which is a big disadvantage in 2024. He doesn’t move, and he stays within a 3-4 foot radius; he can’t and will not extend play.

Well, given his age and a recent return from Achilles injury, Rodgers may have resorted to a laid-back approach. Instead of rushing with the football, he now opts to throw from a standing position. As Cowherd added, “He is an older QB who doesn’t move. He is an immobile and expensive older QB with a pretty b—.”

However, this is not the first time Cowherd has decided to criticise the QB since he landed in New York. Last year, when Rodgers finally announced that he would not come back after getting injured in his fourth snap for the Jets. Cowherd decided to lunge into Rodgers’ time at the Jets, “This entire Aaron Rodgers year has been about Aaron and been an absolute circus. Aaron was never gonna play. Yesterday, he announced he conceded, quote, conceded he’s not going to play this year. That’s not breaking news, Aaron. Everybody knew it, you knew it.”

Even though the Jets had the chance of adding a new QB to their roster, they decided not to. That decision ended up being costly as the Jets failed to qualify for playoffs yet again in 13 years. But this season, there are people whose hopes have renewed after seeing Aaron Rodgers make a comeback to the MetLife Stadium. Moreover, it went up a notch after seeing him guide the Jets to their first win of the season against the Titans.

This was Aaron Rodgers’ first complete win for the Jets after signing for them last season. Although it was long overdue, Rodgers was ecstatic while speaking to the reporters after the game, “It feels great, it feels great. It was a long time coming.” It must be a huge relief for Rodgers, who has found himself criticised left, right and center since joining the Jets.

Opening up on his team’s performance, Rodgers stated, “I’m always confident when we take the field that we’re going to score. Now it doesn’t happen every time.” However, the positive signs were there as the Jets eclipsed the Titans, with 8:41 minutes remaining on the clock in the last quarter. Meanwhile, Rodgers went for 5-of-5 passes while leading a game-winning scoring drive for 60 yards, thereby all but confirming the Jets’ first win of the season.

Even head coach Robert Saleh spoke highly about the Jets’ QB’s performance: “He’s had success in this league for a very long time, he’s seen everything. To have his presence in the huddle for guys who haven’t seen everything is pretty cool.” With Rodgers seemingly going back into form, the Jets fans can only hope this continues throughout the season. Otherwise, it would yet again result in them failing to make the playoffs and Rodgers garnering all the criticism there is. Only time will tell whether Rodgers and Co can build on this win moving forward.
