While the NFL community continues to raise brows at Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers has come to his support. The moment comes after the recent clash against the Bills. Patrick Mahomes thought there to be a potential chance of gaining a victory in the last quarter. However, the refs had other opinions on the incident. Kadarius Toney’s offside presence led the referees to take a call, ultimately failing the efforts of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

However, what happened next is arguably referred to as the heat of the moment. Mahomes was seen melting down on the sidelines for the first time in his seven years of NFL career. Although he later apologized and regretted his behavior, the NFL seems to not show mercy on the Kansas City Chiefs star. As per the latest news, Mahomes could face a fine for his conduct on the sidelines and post-game comments. In the latest episode of the Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers shared his opinions regarding Patrick Mahomes’ meltdown incident on Sunday’s game.

Aaron Rodgers watched a “good segment” of the breakdown of every play

The 4x MVP Rodgers hoped that no action would be taken against the 2x MVP, Patrick Mahomes. While asked by McAfee on Mahomes’ fine for calling out referees, Rodgers responded, “I hope nothing happens. I hope they do nothing,” on the consequences of Mahomes’ incident.

The Jets’ QB, who is ardently waiting for a comeback, backed his support with something logical. He mentioned how he didn’t know what to think until he saw a good segment by Dano, who broke down every play. When Rodgers saw it multiple times, it looked like Toney was “offside on other players.”

Currently, the league is considering whether or not to fine Mahomes for expressing his frustration towards the referees after a crucial call in the game against the Buffalo Bills.

McAfee reiterated the potential fine, which is around $25,000, that the NFL might put on Mahomes. Rodgers, then, pointed out that he believes that the referees did make the correct call, as it was seen to be Toney’s fault in the breakdowns. But, he also backed the emotions of Mahomes and said, “I think that was the right call. I understand the frustration. I’d be pissed too … It wipes out a really awesome play, but the interpretation of the rule was obviously correct.

Later, Rodgers also expressed his appreciation for the human element in the game, acknowledging that it can be frustrating at times. He believes that the refs generally care about the games, and strive to make the right calls, emphasizing that they are not intentionally trying to make mistakes.

However, despite Rodgers’ hope that Mahomes won’t face a fine, recognizing his frustration and his subsequent apology, the NFL may not be lenient toward the 28-year-old star quarterback.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid both could be fined

The Bills won by 20-17, which resulted after the Chiefs had a touchdown nullified because of an offside penalty. It arguably could have given them a lead, and subsequently a potential win. Showing his frustration in the post-game conference, Andy Reid referred to the ref’s call as “shameful.” He said, “It’s a little embarrassing for the National Football League to have that happen.

Furthermore, Patrick Mahomes also chimed in the conference, saying, “I’ve played seven years in the NFL, and I’ve never been called for an offensive offside.” Later, Mahomes walked back on his sideline and post-game episode and issued an apology for his reaction. He said that he is still “hot and emotional.” He loves his teammates but “can’t be that way towards officials or really anybody in life.” He also expressed regret for calling out Josh Allen after the game because he had nothing to do with it.

NFL will reportedly review both, Andy Reid and Mahomes for criticizing the referees. This comes in the light of a “long-standing policy against questioning the integrity of the referees.” After all these comments and Mahomes’ revolt on the sidelines could cause them a fine of $25k each if we consider the previous year’s similar type of incident involving Diontae Johnson.

This incident occurred in November last year when Pittsburgh Steelers WR Johnson was also fined $25k from the NFL for expressing criticism of the officials after his team’s 20-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
