In an interview with ESPN, Russell Wilson had high praise for Steelers HC Mike Tomlin. He even claimed that the HC told him, “You’ve been immortal to the game being a young black quarterback, the second guy to ever win a Super Bowl.” But things changed as they lost the final 4 games in a row and the wild card playoff game against the Ravens. Tomlin was in a double mind, not naming the starter for 2025. He even claimed that they were good, but not enough to evade the loss. It changed the atmosphere. Even one Steelers executive revealed that the QB-HC relationship was shaky. It has ended with Wilson becoming a free agent. The replacement? Aaron Rodgers?
A-Rod’s former teammate at the Packers, James Jones, had an explosive viewpoint against Mike Tomlin on The Facility’s March 14 episode. He threw the HC under the bus and said, “You tried to go after Justin Fields, you didn’t get him, you tried to go after Sam Darnold, you didn’t get him. You let Russ (Russell Wilson) know clear in his face without letting Russ know clear in his face that we don’t want you. So Russ is not going to be back in the building.” We can’t deny that the Steelers are having the toughest quarterback dilemma. But is Tomlin the real reason behind it?

Tomlin’s choice, Justin Fields has already gone to the NY Jets. Moreover, even Russell Wilson spent a day with the NY Giants. But he left without a contract. The Giants had also made an offer to Aaron Rodgers. Both QBs are taking their time to weigh their options. A day prior, Russ also met with the Browns.
Former Cleveland legend Bernie Kosar even extended a welcome to Mr Unlimited, using his wife Ciara. But things haven’t been planned yet. Russell Wilson is already 36 years old, while Aaron Rodgers is 41. So, they are on the rising side of age. But Russ had an opposite season to A-Rod.
He took the Steelers to the playoffs with a 6-5 record in 2024, while the Jets’ QB had a 5-12 win-loss record. So, many analysts believe that they don’t offer much hope. But Jones claimed the doors were locked for the Black and the Gold.

Aaron Rodgers: The only choice left for Mike Tomlin?
James Jones won Super Bowl XLV in 2010 with A-rod for the Packers. He knows him in and out. That’s why he also gave a reason for the Steelers to opt for the aging quarterback. He added, “Aaron Rodgers is your best option. You are not in the draft with the right pick to be able to get Shedeur (Sanders) or Cam Ward. So you’re not going to get the top quarterbacks. Aaron Rodgers is your last option to go out here, to complete your football team and go out here and put your best foot down to win games.” He gave his honest advice.

The Steelers are placed 21st in the first round. So, that’s a long way from getting any shot at a great QB. But Mike Tomlin has resorted to adding other weapons, such as DK Metcalf to his side in the free agency. But Jones blamed the side for putting themselves in such a situation.
Amid this drama, Aaron Rodgers is not ready to commit. He is making it more of a mystery by taking time to join any franchise. The Black and the Gold are trying to strengthen their roster. In a bid, they have signed their former QB Mason Rudolph to a 2-year $8 million deal. They had earlier released him in 2023 after 6 seasons. But the real question looming big in the face is: Who is the headman?
