The news about Robert Saleh getting sacked from the New York Jets spread like wildfire. So did the narrative that Aaron Rodgers was involved somehow. Fans and analysts refuse to believe that the 4x MVP didn’t know that Saleh was going to end up on the chopping block before the world found out. A-Rod has a way with words, and he certainly deflected the onus cast upon him.
The Jets quarterback affirmed that he doesn’t hold as much power as people deem him to. He later mentioned how Saleh’s sacking and Hackett’s demotion was on him and the team. The Jets players are standing under a “spotlight,” and per Aaron Rodgers, the players need to be held “accountable.” But that’s not slipping by TJ Lang, Rodgers’ former teammate.
The former NFL guard appeared on The Valenti Show with Rico and wasn’t afraid to express his unfiltered opinion. Per Lang, though Rodgers might not have directly been involved in Saleh’s firing, he might have known it beforehand. He had a chat with the team owner, Woody Johnson, the day before Saleh was fired and escorted outside by the director of security.

“I don’t know if he got him clipped, but there’s absolutely no way Woody Johnson did that without getting his input. Aaron said what he had to say this week, you know, ‘Oh, surprised and talked about my injury,’ but come on. You’re not going to make that move without… And I don’t know if he signed off on it, speaking of Rodgers, but there’s absolutely no way that he found out Tuesday with the rest of everybody else,” Lang said on The Valenti Show with Rico.
Woody Johnson might have had enough of Saleh when the Jets lost 23-17 to the Vikings in London. The Jets owner, being the former US Ambassador to the UK, might have invited a lot of his friends in the booth, only to watch Rodgers throw two interceptions in the first quarter, which he hasn’t done before. But it isn’t like Saleh’s 20-36 record is something to be lauded. It absolutely isn’t.
However, firing Saleh at this point doesn’t make sense from a logical standpoint. The only good thing about the Jets was their defense, and they fired a guy who was a DC before the Jets gig. New Robert Saleh lore just surfaced, and it might make it sound like the former HCs sacking was a hasty decision. Even the Las Vegas Raiders waited 8 games to fire Josh McDaniels last year!
But regardless of what anyone says, Aaron Rodgers seems to have been deeply hurt by people’s sentiments towards him.

The New York team landed home with a frown on their faces after the loss in London. Then Aaron Rodgers had a call with the team owner Woody Johnson regarding his injuries on Monday night, and the very next day, Saleh got sacked and escorted out of the Jets facility. For some people, the situation is like putting two and two together. But for Rodgers, it’s complex.
The 4x MVP took to The Pat McAfee Show and called out the people who think Saleh ending up on the guillotine was on him. The QB pointed out that he had a solid relationship with the former HC and also noted that Saleh was one of the reasons he joined the New York Jets. He further clarified his side by saying that the team owner has no “obligations” to tell him what’s going on.

“I resent any of those accusations because they’re patently false,” Rodgers said. “It’s interesting the amount of power people think I have. Which I don’t. I love Robert and it was one of those days yesterday.” In the Super Bowl winner’s mind, there was “nothing abnormal” about the call he had with Woody Johnson, but what’s behind the closed curtains rarely sees the light of day.
In no way is the Jets quarterback celebrating Saleh’s sacking. Instead, he’s mindful of the former HC losing his job and how it might affect his family. Rodgers’ teammate, the Jets TE Tyler Conklin, believes that “Aaron probably took this harder than anybody.” Maybe he did. What do you think about the situation? Let us know in the comments.
