It was humiliating! Where do the Jets go from here? In the fourth quarter, they were losing 40-0 against their divisional foes, the Bills, on Sunday. So, when everything looked lost with Aaron Rodgers going nowhere with his plays, the Jets decided to throw in their backup QB Tyrod Taylor. And guess what happened? The Jets scored two TDs to save some face in Buffalo as the game ended 14-40. But that’s not the end of it.

They were undisciplined. The team had 16 accepted penalties for 120 yards and five of those penalties were personal fouls for unnecessary roughness. No wonder the frustration is evident in their locker room, as Sauce Gardner and DJ Reed couldn’t accept such a steep loss. But here’s the thing: Bringing in backup QB Tyrod Taylor wasn’t even in the plans of Jeff Ulbrich. Instead, it was Aaron Rodgers who willingly gave up his spot to Tyrod.

Opening up after the game, Rodgers said, “It was 33 nothing; we were sitting there, and I said at some point probably go to Tyrod here.” And then the next play, they threw a screen for a touchdown. So it’s 40 on nothing.”

Umm, here’s a small correction for you, Rodgers. Your team was already down 40-0 when you left without scoring a TD and instead threw 2 costly interceptions. This was a stark contrast to what the QB had in mind while going into the game. He was hoping to throw the 500th touchdown of his career. If anything, Rodgers became the most-sacked quarterback in the history of the NFL before being switched for Taylor. However, the decision to allow Taylor to play offensive when there was no way for the Jets to come back helped them salvage some face in an otherwise horror Sunday.

Well, Tyrod himself was surprised to find his name being called in the 4th quarter, “I don’t know what led to the decision for me to come in. But I stayed ready like any other game and got in.” Now, what Taylor managed to do, Rodgers couldn’t throughout his plays. Within his first offensive series, Taylor led the Jets to a 75-yard TD drive that Garrett Wilson capped off with a 9-yard TD. And that play wasn’t finished. Taylor hauled in a 2-point conversion by finding TE Tyler Conklin lurking in the end zone.

On the next drive, the Jets found Taylor and Conklin linking up again for their second TD. A 20-yard TD throw to the Jets TE helped him to score his third TD this year. Now, whatever the result was at the end of the day, Tyrod Taylor managed to bring up some hope in the final minutes. Yet, with their embarrassing loss, their CBs, DJ Reed and Sauce Gardner, weren’t at all pleased with how their team performed against the AFC East Champions.

What’s your perspective on:

Is the Jets' performance against the Bills a sign of deeper issues within the team?

Sauce Gardner & DJ Reed question the Jets’ commitment after the loss…

Wait a minute! Embarrassing. Are you sure that’s the word you are supposed to use to define the Jets’ 14-40 loss on Sunday? Because the two-time Pro Bowler CB Sauce Gardner feels the embarrassing tag will not do justice to the Jets’ performance against the Bills. He said “Embarrassing? I don’t even know if that’s the word. You’re telling me now it’s 40-0? If you ask me that means it’s the end of the season. Obviously, we’re not going to the playoffs, some people might be checked out.”

We can’t help but wonder if that “checked out” was an indirect reference to Rodgers being replaced on Sunday.

“We beat them my rookie year right? Last year too,” Gardener asked reporters. “They had a similar roster and we quote on quote, enhanced our roster in all areas. So, that just tells me… we can’t be playing as a team. We’re probably just individuals.”

Now, Gardner wasn’t the only one who threw shade on Rodgers’s day in Buffalo. His CB DJ Reed also did the same when he was asked, “Did you sense a lack of effort by anyone today?”

Reed refused to answer, saying, “I won’t speak on that.” However, he pointed a finger at the offense for its lack of production. The Rodgers-led group has scored only one touchdown in the past two contests.

“It comes down to complementary football, bro,” Reed said. “We’re playing a high-powered offense. Josh Allen is the MVP runner-up, whatever — a great player. We have to get s— going — on offense, on special teams. You keep having our defense go out there. Eventually, they’re going to do something good.

“So yes, defense, we need to be better, but we have to play complementary football.”

Now their Week 18 game against the Miami Dolphins will be under a lot of scrutiny. One can’t help but wonder if Tyrod Taylor will start in Week 18. What do you think?
