Is Aaron Rodgers still the savior the Jets need, or is it time to move on?

The City of New York never sleeps. Since Aaron Rodgers made his desire to play in 2025 known, the football world is abuzz with possibilities and limitations. The 40-year-old veteran has been in the league for 2 decades, but 2024 brought a new set of problems. The age, the injuries, and the increasing competition have made it difficult for him to replicate his success. Now, analysts are attacking him.

Former NFL quarterback Chris Simms appeared on Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz on November 16, where he made many interesting statements. While talking about Rodgers, he said, “He can’t play the way he thinks he can play. He thought he was going to dance around and do all this crap that he’s been doing his whole career. He hasn’t done that in three years, let alone coming off an Achilles injury.” That’s pretty mean. Rodgers came to the Jets last year, and fans were pumped.

Last year, in the very first quarter of the first game, he suffered an injury that ruled him out of the entire season. This year, he has been doing everything he can, bringing in experienced players like Davante Adams. But it hasn’t helped them. He has tried changes in the O-line, however; the team has lost.

There have been a few games they could have won with extra effort, like the 9-10 loss against the Broncos in week 4, the 20-23 defeat against the Bills in week 6, and the 22-25 loss against the Patriots in week 8. But that didn’t happen. Now, with a 3-7 win-loss record after week 10, it has become a complex situation for the Jets.

Aaron Rodgers is performing fine with 219 of 351 passes (62.4% completion rate) in 2,258 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. However, the ex-NFLer claimed that the QB made short passes to his receivers instead of touchdown passes that would matter. While criticizing him, he even went a little overboard and added, “I took a lot of crap for saying he was the 14th best quarterback in football the way it looks like I should have made him lower.

Jets might not continue with Aaron Rodgers in 2025!

According to the sources of The Athletic’s Diana Russini, there’s no guarantee that the seasoned quarterback will play for the Jets next year. Looking at the team’s poor performance under his wings in the current season has disappointed the management who might decide to go the hard route. She claimed that they might cut him after June 1 and pay the $14 million dead money. Wild!

One thing everyone agrees on is that he is way past his prime, but his future depends on how the season ends. They still have 7 more games to play in 2024. And they need to win most of them to garner some respect. Aaron Rodgers, being hopeful, might be planning to win all of them and make a miracle comeback.

In the AFC East division, it’s an interesting scenario. The Bills with 8 wins have almost guaranteed a seat in the playoffs. The other 3 teams: the Jets, Dolphins, and Patriots have 3 wins each. It was unexpected. It’s heartbreaking for A-Rod fans.
