Would the New York Jets want the “worst quarterback in the league”? By the way, those are not our words. Sam Howell was touted as the worst QB in the second half of the season by CBS Sports. And the Washington Commanders are expected to trade him away. And why would they not? They’re number 2 in the queue for the NFL Draft 2024. It’s highly likely that they will score either Caleb Williams, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels. So, why stick around with a QB that had disappointed them?
But as they say, one man’s waste is another man’s treasure. And it seems even Howell has his takers. Although not in the starting position as he would like.

After all the chatter every other week that Aaron Rodgers would soon be back, it turned out he didn’t. But there’s no stopping him in the 2024 season. But the Jets need a reliable backup as well. Just in case, you know, something season-ending again happens to the 4x NFL MVP. The word on the street is that Zach Wilson will be traded soon. And the Jets already “like” Howell, per Connor Hughes.

Plus, he will be under a rookie contract for the next two years. This means that he can be acquired for cheap by the Jets, leaving more cap space for further additions to the team.
Despite his “worst quarterback” tag by CBS Sports, he hasn’t been all that bad. And besides, he’s just to act as a backup for the great Rodgers.

Howell’s journey with Washington has been marked by notable moments showcasing his talent. One standout performance came when he led the team to a comeback victory against the Denver Broncos, erasing an 18-point deficit with 206 passing yards and two touchdowns in the final three quarters. That was accompanied by an impressive QBR of 77.2 during that stretch.
Throughout the season, Howell exhibited resilience and growth, earning praise from teammates and coaches alike. Despite ranking high in passing yards, Howell’s interception count remained a concern. However, OC Eric Bieniemy put his faith in him during the season, “He’s smart, he learns from his mistakes. He’s done a great job having pocket presence after having the issues at times. I’m very happy with his development and his growth process. Do we have a long way to go? Yes, we do, but he’s taking the necessary steps moving forward, and that’s the excitement that really generates us as an offensive staff, because he’s growing every single day.”
