Is Aaron Rodgers' leadership crumbling under the weight of New York's expectations and media pressure?

The New York Jets gave Aaron Rodgers everything. From working with desired coaches to reuniting with his Green Bay Packers mates. But something isn’t clicking in the New York Jets offense. We saw that tonight when the 4x NFL MVP was intercepted not once, but twice by a rookie cornerback named Beanie Bishop. The 37-15 loss frustrated Rodgers and he vented his frustrations out on the media.

A-Rod took the podium after the game and was asked how could he help the locker room maintain its belief in this team when they repeat the same mistakes repeatedly. Rodgers took onus and laid it out bluntly in his comments. “Stop listning to you guys, number one. Number two, got to be accountable, you know. I got to play better, that’s the key,” Aaron Rodgers said in the post-game presser. Rodgers mentioned that he “did some nice things in the passing game,” getting the ball around to “Tay, Gee, and Allen,” but was adamant about the fact that his team didn’t run the ball like they should have.

Even Davante Adams seemed disappointed in the 37-15 loss tonight. The optics were very similar to his time with the Las Vegas Raiders. Same emotions, same frustration, but in a different uniform. There’s a Mike Florio quote that comes to mind when considering the Adams trade: “Dysfunctional teams do dysfunctional things.”

Rodgers was right, though. The Jets as a team only rushed for 54 yards throughout the game, but had good passing numbers as a team (323 team passing yards). Nonetheless, the 4x MVP didn’t stop criticizing his team after the game.

Aaron Rodgers says the Jets are not consistent

The reporter questioning Rodgers didn’t think the New York Jets handled the adversity well enough and asked their QB what would fix it. In a classic Aaron Rodgers response, he criticized the whole team first, before holding himself responsible for “not doing little things well enough.”

“What goes into handling adversity better?” Rodgers said.Just being a great competitor, you know. There’s going to be some ups and downs, some tough moments. You gotta keep doing the little things.” If only there were “some” ups and downs. The Jets have a whole lot of them. While they improved on not getting penalized for false starts or racking up bogus fouls, they still fumbled the ball twice in the game.

Most importantly, both interceptions that Rodgers threw landed in the hands of Beanie Bishop, who is a rookie. It’s insane to think that a rookie can outsmart Aaron Rodgers. But here we are, with the same old New York Jets, but with new faces.
