It’s a fresh wind at the NY Jets franchise. They have started the wave of change by appointing their former cornerback and Lions’ DC Aaron Glenn as their new head coach. He made his intentions clear by announcing he sees himself, Woody Johnson, and others on the podium. As they prepare for the off-season, the head coach has made big announcements for Aaron Rodgers and co.

According to Harrison Glaser, the head coach announced, “Mental toughness is being calloused, because adversity is going to hit. During training camp, my job is to make our players as calloused as possible. Meaning that once we get in the season, we’re going to go through so much during training camp, & by the time you get to the season, the hard stuff, you’re going to be calloused to be able to go through that. I’m going to put guys through that during training camp. It’s not going to be easy in training camp.” The message is clear. Practice in the training camp like you’re playing in the season.

However, there are challenges too, especially for the quarterback. Aaron Rodgers is 41 years of age already. In his first season at the Jets, in 2023, he suffered an achilles injury that ruled him out of the entire season. Even in 2024, he suffered many injuries that limited him from playing at his full capacity. Aaron Glenn needs to be mindful of that.

Though Rodgers has never said that he wasn’t at his best, there were other problems too. When things didn’t work out as per his plan in the 2024 offseason, he and Robert Saleh weren’t on the best terms. It later became hard for the team as the HC was removed after just 5 games, with a 2-3 record.

The new coach has appeared confident so far while talking to the media and in his moves as well. He is reshuffling the staff to ensure they have the best people around.

Aaron Glenn confirms Steve Wilks hiring at the Jets

What’s your perspective on:

Can Aaron Glenn's tough love transform the Jets, or will Rodgers' age be their downfall?

Have an interesting take?

During his time at the Lions, Glenn trained them well hands-on. They landed in the playoffs by finishing top of their division twice in a row for the first time in franchise history. But at the Jets, he is a changed man. While announcing his plan, he said, “I want to be the best head coach you can find. For me to do that, I think I need to manage the game, so I’ll have my OC and my DC, those guys will be calling the plays.

With that, he also confirmed Steve Wilks as their new defensive coordinator. He comes with a decade plus of experience in the NFL with different teams. He first started off in the league as a defensive backs coach for the Chicago Bears and then moved to the Carolina Panthers.

In 2017, he started as a defensive coordinator for the Panthers, even becoming the interim coach in 2022. In 2023, he transformed the 49ers to lead the league in interceptions (22), 3rd in opponent scoring per game (17.5) and rush defense (89.7), and 5th in opponent pass yards per play (5.86). So Aaron Glenn has brought in an experienced man.
