The Jets and continuity? Yeah, those two don’t exactly go hand in hand. I mean, if there’s one thing this franchise has mastered over the years, it’s shaking things up—whether that’s their coaching staff, quarterback situation, or, in this case, their offensive line. At this point, every season seems to come with a new lineup, a new strategy, and a fresh batch of problems that somehow feel way too familiar.
And in 2025? It looks like the shake-up’s gonna hit differently. Because the team is already done with Aaron Rodgers, who was supposed to lead the Jets out of their trenches. Now, the continuity in their O-line seems too far from better and that’s what the former Jets’ offensive guard, Damien Woody, believes. On Monday, Woody made an appearance on the Badlands Patreon and talked about how important the continuity on the O-line is.
“People don’t understand like how important continuity is on the O-Line,” Woody said. “You know when I played with the Jets, we were together, they seemed like forever, and the reason that obviously we were talented. But when you’re playing all together, you’re not even like everyone’s thinking the same thing. There were so many games we didn’t even have to like, say anything to the guy next to us…Yeah, we don’t need to talk because we’ve been playing together for so long. We just knew what we were doing out there.”

See, Woody believes that when you play with talented players for a long time, you build continuity. The players basically don’t need to talk with other players while playing. The result? It builds pressure on the opposition’s defensive players. And when you’re able to build that continuity with such talent, it just uplifts everything in the game. Whether it is your run game or your play action pass game? Everything gets better with the continuity.
Honestly, it doesn’t work 100% of the time. The reason? Well, a study by Sports Info Solutions found that keeping the same guys on the O-line definitely helps, but it’s not the end-all, be-all when it comes to performance. Long story short: just because a bunch of linemen have played together for years doesn’t mean they’re gonna dismantle the opposition’s defense. The real difference-maker is the talent.
If a team’s got five elite linemen who’ve never played together, they might still outshine a bunch of average guys who’ve been side by side for years. But let’s not sugarcoat it, because the Jets are struggling to find a great offensive line for the team and a lack of continuity plays a crucial role in their struggling O-line.
Sure, consistency on offense won’t guarantee wins every time, but in the Jets’ case? They’ve to start from somewhere if they’re rooting for a Super Bowl next season. And that’s what Damien Woody wants to point out. Because after Aaron Rodgers’ departure, the Jets’ surely don’t want this decision to cause a domino effect throughout the organization.

Davante Adams might join Aaron Rodgers
After acquiring the veteran wide receiver from the Raiders last year, the Jets seem to move on from Davante Adams in 2025. And at this point, it’s likely that the Jets are all set to make this call, given Adams’ $38.3 million cap hit for 2025. On top of that, as the team has already made a decision to part ways with Aaron Rodgers, it’s clear that Adams doesn’t even have to request for a trade, the Jets’ are simply gonna release him.
And now ESPN’s Bill Barnwell believes that Adams is one of the prime cut candidates of the NFL offseason. “Adams is still a useful player. He’s just not worth nearly $36 million per season, and that’s going to bring an end to his time with the Jets, given the primary reason they dragged Adams to New York, will be hitting the road,” he stated. “ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Adams could return to the West Coast, which would leave a number of teams as plausible candidates. The Chargers and Rams both have potential openings at wide receiver and would expect to win now.”

See, when the Jets signed Adams last season, they united him with Rodgers whom he played with the Packers. The Jets surely believed that the duo might end their postseason drought. Yeah, reality hit hard for the team, and neither Rodgers nor Adams had the season they were hoping for. Adams played 11 games for green and white and recorded 67 receptions for 857 yards and racked up 7 touchdowns.

Fast forward to now—he’s got two years left on his contract worth $72.5 million. If the Jets decide to cut him after June 1, they’d take a $2 million dead-cap hit, but they’d free up a solid $36.1 million in cap space, according to Over The Cap. That’s enough to build a strong O-line in the offseason for Garrett Wilson.
