So far, if the New York Jets have done anything good after the horrible 2024 season, it was hiring Aaron Glenn as their HC. The mentality coach Glenn is bringing to the Jets’ building is much needed. He is the ‘no-nonsense’ coach, and within days of his arrival in New York, he made that clear. Now, on Thursday night, the former Lions DC had his first draft as the head coach. The Jets brass was in Green Bay with Glenn and new GM Darren Mougey, ready to pick players to build a roster that would help them make a comeback.
So, as Coach Glenn made the Jets’ first pick, he was still following his old team, the Lions‘ playbook. With their number 7 overall pick, the Jets selected Missouri Tigers OT Armand Membou. In the post-draft interview, Glenn got candid about his experience on the first draft night. Talking about picking Membou, he shared, “Being able to pick the guy we targeted is outstanding. He’s a really good player. I’m excited for him to come and join this offensive line. And he’s going to do a good job for us.“
Coach Glenn shared that Membou reminded him of Lions OT Penei Sewell, whom he drafted in 2021 when he was the Lions’ DC. The Jets’ HC mentioned that there were several plays he watched from Armand that convinced him to take the 21-year-old as their first pick. “There were a number of plays that showed up. Man, he’s tough, he’s mean, he’s nasty. He kind of reminds me of Penei Sewell, whom we drafted in Detroit with the first pick.” Coincidentally, Sewell was also the seventh overall pick in the 2021 draft.

Aaron believes that the Missouri alum is a perfect choice for the Jets‘ roster as the team was looking for a tackle. “And just my personal belief when it comes to building a football team, you have to build from the inside out. So he’s the perfect fit for us, especially being a right tackle, something that we look for in terms of just building our team,” added him.
So, as excited as Coach Glenn is to have the Missouri star on the team, Membou is equally excited.

Rookie Armand Membou’s unfiltered message to Aaron Glenn
Armand Membou played a huge role in the Missouri Tigers’ offense. Over his collegiate career, the 21-year-old started 36 games. Pro Football Focus has graded Armand 87.6 in run blocking and 86.6 in pass protection. Looking at these stats, the young OT is indeed a good choice for the Jets’ offense.
After hearing his name on the very first day of the draft, Armand’s excitement was through the roof. After the draft, the Missouri alum had a brief conversation with the New York Post Sports. The interviewer asked him about his interaction with Coach Glenn. Happy and giggling, Membou candidly said, “Oh yeah, Coach Glenn, yeah, he’s a cool-a** dude, nah. I’m sorry, I’m still geeked right now, but yeah, we had some good talks.” The interviewer then chimed in, saying, “You’re probably allowed to call him a cool-a** dude tonight, and then probably not after this, Armand. That’s my tip for you.” Laughing, Membou added, “Yeah, probably not.”

When Coach Glenn saw the video, he replied, “Listen, I think everything that he said on that call really fits who he is, and it really fits us also.” Safe to say the HC is cool with it. Appreciating Membou, Glenn added, “The athletic profile is off the charts. He’s mean, he’s nasty, he’s tough. What we’re trying to do on offense, he really fits what we’re trying to do, so it was a no-brainer. I mean, once the pick was there for us, man, it was like, this is the guy.“
All in all, it was an exciting and happy night for both Membou and the Jets. Now, we’ll see how the other two nights turn out for Aaron Glenn and the Jets.
