Kyle Shanahan must be itching to make some changes to the San Francisco 49ers after that sour Super Bowl loss. In the laborious hustle of drafting new talent, the 49ers coach might just have stepped on a gold mine. Maybe that is why the 49ers are so eager to investigate Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack because the Chargers are also in a crunch right now.
The esteemed NFL journalist David Lombardi had a fresh take on the changes that the 49ers and their neighboring team are rumored to make. Per Lombardi, the Chargers have gone quite overboard with the salary cap and may have to fix the situation before the next league year kicks in a few days from now.

The journalist started by stating that the 49ers are in the market for a premier edge rusher. Nick Bosa’s brother Joey and Khalil Mack seem to be the best possible options that the 49ers have on the table. He also mentioned that the Chargers have gone more than $20 million in cap space and would have to rectify the situation before the league year kicks in on Wednesday.
Lombardi also pointed out that Joey Bosa and Mack have guaranteed roster bonuses taking effect on March 16. So, the Chargers must make up their mind before the deadline, forcing Jim Harbaugh to potential releases. They might even take on lower trade options. The journalist pointed out that these edge rushers might just be a small band-aid to the 49ers’ problems as they might hire them for just a year because of the age factor.
He also speculated that the Texans’ DE Jonathan Greenard and Jets’ DE Bryce Huff may be a great prospect if the 49ers want to rebuild their team with new vigor. Also, the Chargers’ Linebackers leaving have deeper implications for the team.
