Imagine Brock Purdy signing a five-year contract extension with the 49ers, where he gets around $50,000,000 per year, and the QB also gets a player he wants from the draft. There are still rumors going on predicting the 49ers will trade Purdy for draft picks. But while these speculations are going on, Purdy has expressed his take on draft picks. Looks contradictory amid his trade rumors? We have a huge update for you.

As the 2025 NFL draft is just one day away, John Lynch has dropped an update on what Brock Purdy thinks about the draft. The GM was having a convo with the reporters, and when asked about Purdy’s take on the draft, the GM said, “I think Brock does have opinions. And that generally comes with the pro player he has been with in college and stuff.” And added, “I know, he is very high on Iowa State guys.” The GM also said that you know what you get when you get an Iowa state player. Brock has shown us that.

When it comes to standout Iowa State players in the draft, the 49ers could target Jayden Higgins. According to Pro Football Focus, “Higgins is a reliable possession receiver who can run a diverse route tree from any alignment thanks to impressive foot quickness.” In 2024, he recorded 87 receptions for 1,183 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Another strong option is Jaylin Noel, also from Iowa State. The 5’11” wideout tallied 80 catches for 1,194 yards and 8 touchdowns this season. At tight end, Luke Lachey could be a smart pick. He caught 28 passes for 231 yards in 2024.

Just like these players, Brock Purdy was once a little-known Iowa State prospect taken in the 7th round of the 2022 draft—now he’s a rising star. If Purdy’s affinity for Iowa State guys plays a role, these prospects could be strong fits. The 49ers hold the No. 11 pick in the first round. It’ll be interesting to see if they tap into the Iowa State pipeline again.

Meanwhile, as draft chatter continues, the 49ers are also hinting at a long-term deal for Purdy. In the same press conference where GM John Lynch mentioned Purdy’s Iowa connection, he also gave an update on the quarterback’s potential contract extension.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Brock Purdy worth $50 million a year, or are the 49ers overvaluing their rising star?

Purdy is on the way to bag a massive long-term contract extension

Brock Purdy’s voluntary participation in yesterday’s workout sessions left a strong impression on GM John Lynch. While attendance wasn’t mandatory, Lynch praised Purdy’s commitment. When asked about the quarterback, Lynch said, “That’s Brock… Brock is very clear-minded and not going to let other people influence what he should be doing… Looking forward to having him as our quarterback for a long time.” With that statement, Lynch not only reaffirmed Purdy’s future with the team but also effectively shut down any trade rumors.

This also signals that the former Iowa State standout is in line for a contract extension. Reportedly, the 49ers’ QB is eyeing a deal worth around $50 million per year. While that figure once seemed steep for a late-round pick once dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant,” Purdy has proven he’s anything but. His time has arrived — now it’s just a matter of waiting for the official announcement.

In the meantime, the 49ers are focused on crafting a solid draft strategy to set the tone for the upcoming season. With several key needs and a deep talent pool, the team is putting in the work to ensure one thing. And that is? The No. 11 overall pick helps shape a strong future for the franchise.
