Like father, like son. The Philadelphia Eagles are set to make things a full circle. As the NFL Combine drafting approaches, the Eagles are doing their absolute best to bolster their roster ahead of the 2024 season. In hopes of doing that, they came across Jeremiah Trotter Jr., the linebacker for the Clemson Tigers.

A post from Jake Rabadi of the Liberty Line PHL sheds some light on the Eagles’ drafting situation. However, the situation that the Eagles are in right now is particularly interesting for a couple of reasons. As it turns about, Trotter Jr. has familial ties with the NFL that go back to 1998. His dad, Jeremiah Trotter, led the Eagles in tackles while being selected as a first-team All-pro in 2000 and a second-teamer in 2001.

Per Jake Rabadi, the Eagles have scheduled a formal meeting with the Clemson Tigers’ LB Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the NFL scouting combine. He started two years for Clemson Tigers. The LB amassed 192 total tackles, 13 sacks, 4 interceptions, and three forced fumbles in that time. However, there are some things about the linebacker that the Eagles might consider before they pair him with Vick Fangio.

According to an analysis from the Inquirer, Trotter’s main weakness is “operating in space as a primary defender”. However, he is good at disrupting passes and observing what’s in front of him. As far as his vigilance of what’s happening behind his back goes, he still has some work to do. It also goes to show that his biggest strength is play recognition and his ability to put a stop to the running backs.

Though he has decent ground coverage and vigilance, it often makes him vulnerable to RB’s flexibility and fakes, making him miss the running backs on some occasions. Hopefully, after careful consideration, the Eagles will hire the LB, just like they did his father as a linebacker back in 1998.

Jeremiah Trotter’s signing would come like a Déjà vu!

It might not be unwarranted to think the same. When his father joined the Eagles back in 1998, he wasn’t much of an impact maker. However, as time went by, he improved and left a mark on the Philly team. He played 11 seasons in the league, out of which he spent 8 with the Eagles, 2 with the Washington team, and one season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

By the end of his career, Trotter’s father played 147 games and had 908 total tackles, out of which 720 were solo. He had 12.5 sacks throughout his career with 8 forced fumbles and 9 interceptions. Despite all the success, Trotter could not agree on a new contract in the 20011 season and was signed by Washington Redskins but was released after two years.

Then came 2004 when Trotter was re-signed by Philadelphia and contributed to reaching their first Super Bowl since the 1980  season, making his third Pro Bowl appearance.
