Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers has hit the headlines due to his salary once again. Despite earning a modest $870,000 annually, he earns less than many of his contemporaries, who enjoy eight-figure salaries. His salary ranks him 81st among 103 quarterbacks. Purdy’s contract is set to lead him into free agency in 2026 unless it is revised.

It contrasts sharply with his on-field achievements. Notably, Brock Purdy has been an amazing quarterback, as he’s been an MVP frontrunner this season. However, compared to other athletes, his salary seems lower. Debates about that have been active online, and now they’ve created a stir on the internet.

Is Brock Purdy underpaid?

The 49ers’ starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, presents a unique financial scenario in the NFL. He earns a combined salary and bonuses of $870,000 in 2023. Because of that, Prudy sits at the bottom among starting quarterbacks, making up a mere 0.33% of his team’s total spending. This figure starkly contrasts with the earnings of the league’s top quarterbacks.

This situation extends beyond the NFL. It’s not just the NFL where he’s paid less. Even college athlete Caleb Williams from USC, already valued at $2.6 million, eclipses Purdy’s compensation. Caleb Williams, who is still a junior and a football player, earns a good amount. Not to mention, Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, and Daniel Jones have 2023 earnings of $80 million, $59.4 million, and $46 million, respectively.

Remarkably, they could each match Purdy’s annual pay in just 11, 16, and 19 minutes of game time. These comparisons naturally raise the question of whether Purdy could be the NFL’s best financial bargain. Even though his performance has been one of the top quarterbacks, his salary doesn’t denote the same.
