The Cowboys are in a dilemma. They still have to figure out the “Dak Prescott Question”. However, there’s also free agency and the upcoming Draft in April to consider. Despite already having three QBs on the roster, one analyst suggests that the Cowboys should entertain the idea of selecting another signal-caller in the 2024 NFL draft. According to him, a certain Florida State Jordan Travis could be a compelling option for the Cowboys, particularly in the second round of the draft.
What they intend to do with four QBs is anyone’s guess. Many think that their picks would be much better utilized if they instead signed one or two good running backs.

Dak Prescott to have three backups?
Analyst Kevin Sherrington wrote for The Dallas Morning News, “Otherwise [if the Cowboys pass on a running back] in the second [round], I could be talked into Texas A&M’s Edgerrin Cooper, not that he’ll last that long. Besides linebacker, the Cowboys could use a cornerback and more offensive linemen. Maybe a quarterback, like, say, Jordan Travis of Florida State.” While exploring the prospect of the Cowboys opting for a QB early in the draft might appear too much of a stretch, it’s worth delving into Jordan Travis’s history.

Travis is presently recuperating from a season-ending leg injury sustained in November, which also dashed the Seminoles’ College Football Playoff aspirations. Before his unfortunate injury, Travis demonstrated okay-ish statistics. He amassed 2,756 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and a mere 2 interceptions while completing 63.9% of his passes across 11 games. Furthermore, he contributed 176 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground. Despite Travis’s notable performance, it would be surprising for the Cowboys or any other team to select him in the second round.
If Prescott and the Cowboys fail to secure a contract extension before the draft commences on April 27, the team’s draft strategy could potentially undergo a shift.

Prescott’s future with the Cowboys remains uncertain
The ongoing Dak Prescott contract saga in Dallas is keeping fans on the edge of their seats this offseason. Recent buzz suggests Prescott could be eyeing a hefty paycheck of around $60 million per year. And it’s expected considering the current QB market trends. With free agency looming on March 13th, the pressure’s on for a resolution before then.

Many believe an extension is imminent, with hopes high for a deal to maximize the team’s salary cap flexibility for roster upgrades. According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, “The Cowboys have given no indication that they are considering an immediate future without Prescott, who is entering the final season of his current deal. The most likely scenario is that he signs a new contract next month.”

But if that plan falls through, drafting Travis would definitely be a smart move. For now, it’s a waiting game, with fans eagerly anticipating the next chapter.
