Patrick Mahomes had his humble beginnings in the sport of baseball. His father was an MLB Pro and helped him pave the way to his NFL journey. Hence, he can appreciate the best of the best, not only in the domain of football but throughout the sports galaxy. In the same spirit, he got excited when he found out that the MLB Shortstop Bobby Witt found his way to the Kansas City Royals.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback happened to appear in a presser ahead of the Super Bowl LVIII and talked about Witt finding his new home in Kansas City. Though he hasn’t had a chance to personally thank him yet, he is excited about the new prospect that Kansas City found.

In his session with the Las Vegas media houses, Mahomes was asked about Bobby Witt’s astounding deal with the Kansas City Royals. Just hearing the name “Bobby Witt” put a smile on the QB’s face. He was asked if he’d heard about the MLB player’s record-breaking contract with the Royals. An elated Mahomes mentioned that he’s “definitely heard about Bobby Witt’s contract”. Safe to say that Witt is in Mahomes’ good books because he thinks the shortstop is “inspired” to make a change in the Kansas City Royals for good.

He had the utmost trust in Witt to achieve “tremendous” things in Kansas City and began praising Witt’s “hard-working” nature and his ethics. In a sense, the shortstop might have reminded Patrick Mahomes of himself when he was young and joined the Chiefs back in 2017. We know Mahomes for his leadership quality, so we know he has a good set of eyes for others with the same leadership capabilities.

The Chiefs QB mentioned that he occasionally keeps in touch with the MLB star and had some encounters with him in Dallas. His relationship with the Baseball star made him think that Witt was “the right type of guy” to lead the Kansas City Royals. Maybe that is the reason why the KC Baseball franchise decided to sign a huge deal with Bobby Witt.

Bobby Witt made history with the Kansas City Royals

The shortstop signed a whopping 11-year $288 million deal with the Royals. This feat came after he already spent 2 years with the team and proved his mettle. Jeff Passan of ESPN broke his contract down and mentioned that he would have been up for arbitration in 2024, so the Royals decided to nab him before anyone else could.

Also, Witt is free to opt out of the Royals between years 7-10 of his contract. If he chooses to stay with Kansas City, he will be eligible for another $89 million for three more years. The 23-year-old secured the biggest deal in the franchise history, similar to what Patrick Mahomes did in his contract with the Chiefs, but on a slightly frugal side.
