“Always Knew It”: Russell Wilson Ends Silence as Wife Ciara and Derek Jeter Are Named ‘DNA Cousins’

An unexpected addition to their family tree? Russell Wilson and Ciara won’t mind because it is none other than of one of the best shortstops in the history of baseball, Derek Jeter. Yes! Jeter and Ciara are DNA cousins. The singer was on the latest episode of ‘Finding Your Roots’, hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr on PBS. She was dumbfounded when Gates announced, “Derek Jeter is your cousin.”

The connection between Ciara and Jeter is their “long identical stretch of DNA on their 14th chromosome,” as explained by Gates. In fact, previously, Jeter was on the show to explore his ancestry. Now Russell Wilson has reacted to this unexpected connection between his wife and Derek Jeter. What did he say?

Did Russell Wilson know it all along?

Well, Ciara was surprised by the connection but her husband wasn’t. “Always knew it!” he wrote on Twitter (now X) and tagged his wife and Jeter. This is the first time Wilson has stated anything in public after posting his highlights reel video after he was declared to be benched against the Los Angeles Chargers.

When Derek Jeter had previously appeared on the same show, he too found out something interesting about his heritage. He learned that in 1872, his great-great-grandfather Green Jeter founded a church in Alabama that remains active to this day.

Further, like Ciara, actor Jim Gaffigan also found out that he is distant relative of Jeter in 2021. The former MLB star led the Yankees to five World Series titles while also making 14 All-Star appearances. He had 260 home runs and 3,465 hits while batting an average of .310. So who wouldn’t be surprised to know they are related to Jeter?

While learning about the unexpected connection with the MLB star is a great way to start 2024, Ciara and Wilson have other things on their mind. Fans are still unsure whether Russell Wilson will play the last game of the season for the Broncos or is it all over in Denver for him?

After the 16-9 win against the Chargers, the Broncos must face another divisional foe, the Las Vegas Raiders, for their final game. As things stand, it looks likely that Wilson will be benched for this game as well. Stidham will remain the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Raiders. This means Wilson has already played his last game in a Broncos uniform.
