Andy Reid appeared in the media in a pregame press conference on Tuesday morning. He addressed the press regarding the players’ status of three key players for the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII against the Niners in Las Vegas. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney, dealing with a hip injury, has been practicing but Reid remained noncommittal about his availability. He expressed in a cryptic tone, “Yeah, we’ll see how that goes. He’s been practicing. We’ll just see whether he’s up or not.” Running back Jerick McKinnon, recovering from a core muscle injury and surgery, has returned from Reserve/Injured, but Reid expressed “slim” chances of him playing on Sunday.
The coach noted, “Jerick is not practicing. I tell you: it’s slim for him to be out there.” Besides these two, left guard Joe Thuney, who injured his pectoral muscle in the divisional round, is being monitored for strength but Reid suggested, “It’s just [his] strength, and making sure that he’s in a position that he doesn’t get hurt worse than what he’s got. That’s what we look at. We’ll see. I mean, I think it’s a long shot.”
It’s likely that Toney might be available for the Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday. Whereas, the other two questionable players, McKinnon and Thuney, might skip this golden opportunity due to their health statuses.
While fans await a final report, it’s important to note that there are a few other players either out or on the injured list. The absence of some key players might impact the Chiefs’ Super Bowl game this time.
Who else is questionable or out of Super Bowl LVIII?
As per the latest injury report, Bryan Cook (ankle), Jody Fortson (shoulder), Nazeeh Johnson (knee), Cam Jones (chest), Derrick Nnadi (tricep), Charles Omenihu (knee), and Gerrit Prince (undisclosed) are out of the Sunday’s game. Apart from them, some other key players are ‘questionable’. As we know the status of Jerick McKinnon and Joe Thuney, Skyy Moore (knee) and Prince Tega Wanogho (quad) are also under this category.
There is likely a high chance that the three key players under question, Thuney, Moore, and McKinnon might not play in Super Bowl LVIII. Thuney has been a consistent and reliable player in the NFL since 2016, gaining recognition for blocking skills. He became part of the Chiefs and received All-Pro Honors in 2023. His absence could impact the Chiefs’ game in blocking the opponents.

McKinnon faced a sports hernia/pelvis injury, leading to his placement on injured reserve in the Week 15 game. Although designated to return from IR, it remains unclear whether he will be ready for the Super Bowl or not. He played a crucial role in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win last season.
His contribution involved serving as a reliable option for catching passes from the backfield and acting as a safety net for the team. Another key player, Moore, has also been sidelined since the Week 15 game against the Patriots due to a knee injury. The team hasn’t activated him from the injured reserve, which suggests his uncertainty to play on Sunday. Despite challenges faced by the Chiefs’ receiving corps this season, Moore played a crucial role in the previous year’s Super Bowl victory, by extending the team’s lead with a 4-yard touchdown in the crucial fourth quarter, in that game.
