NFL fans have been lucky to witness a lot of events this offseason. We saw 2X Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes take part in the Aloha Golf Classic as a part of charity work in Hawaii. And most recently, fans also enjoyed NFL duo Mahomes and Travis Kelce go head-on against NBA stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in the eighth edition of Capital One’s: The Match on June 29 at the Wynn golf course in Las Vegas.

And now, Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen and his teammate are also using the offseason to give back to the community. The QB has come forward to lend a helping hand to his teammate, who is also planning a charity event as an act to spread kindness amongst people after it almost got canceled because of the name of former POTUS, Donald Trump.

Bills safety Jordan Poyer had decided to host a charity golf event called the Celebrity Golf Open. But despite it being a noble cause, the event was on the verge of cancellation because of sponsors’ and teams’ unease of it being held at the Blue Monster course at Trump National Doral, Miami, owned by Donald Trump. This venue led to the event’s intended beneficiary, Erie County Medical Center Foundation (ECMC), pulling out of the event because of the mounting pressure.

But now, it seems that they will not cancel the charity event. In fact, the Celebrity Golf Open is now scheduled to be held on July 10, according to Poyer in an interview with Sandra Smith on Fox News. Despite many sponsors and teams dropping out, the safety has received a new big sponsor in the form of PublicSq, who are stepping in with Poyer. PublicSq is a marketplace that “seeks to connect all pro-America shoppers and businesses”, and will now team up with Bills Safety to give back to the community through the event.

The event has loads of support, with Poyer’s teammates Josh Allen and WR Gabriel Davis showing their support publicly for their teammate and the act of kindness. Even his wife, Rachel Bush, publicly spoke up about her disappointment with the gold event being canceled initially.

Poyer’s wife speaks up her mind

Despite it being a charity event, it seems that the politicization of the venue led to sponsors and teams backing out from the noble cause. Even Poyer’s wife, Rachel Bush, expressed her visible frustration with the last-minute withdrawal of teams and sponsors.. Ever since being married in 2018, she has always been a constant source of support for her NFL husband. In a now-deleted tweet, Bush stated that “the arrogance of others” led to the event being canceled initially, as everyone had decided to back out at the last minute, making it difficult for preparations to take place.

But now, as the event is back on track, it will be interesting to see how successful Poyer’s ambitions will be on July 10.
