Brazilian forward Neymar Jr. has opened up about the criticisms that he received following his side’s poor show at the World Cup. In an advertisement for a sponsor, he declared that he would bounce back as a completely new man.

The Paris. St Germain winger went to Russia with high hopes and was expected to lead the Selecaos to a 6th World Cup triumph. However, he and side fell miserably short as they crashed out in the quarter-finals against Belgium. Neymar, who netted only twice during the showpiece tournament was regularly criticized by fans and pundits alike for his theatrics and simulation on the pitch. He was even denied a place in the FIFA’s Best Player Award following the fiasco at the Mundial.

The ad, which is for men’s grooming company Gillette starts off with Neymar saying,” Boot-stud on the shins. Kick in the spine. Stomp on the foot. You may think I overreact, and sometimes I do. But the truth is I suffer on the pitch”. The ad, which was shot in black and white aims to portray the harsh criticism that the former Barcelona man received during his time in Russia.

He then goes on to explain how he did not actually fall but only crumbled. This was evidently a jab at all his critiques who have been taking potshots at him ever since he was at Santos. He also promised to fight and keep the boy in him alive, the same by which produces the moments of magic that makes him be such a special player. He signed off by saying,”I fell but only those who fall can get up.” He also promised to come back stronger and asked his countrymen to support him as he enters a new chapter in his footballing career.
