WWE Legend Disclosed How Hulk Hogan’s Mother Discovered Former WWE Women’s Champion’s Likeness for Her Son

Hulk Hogan deserves a lot of credit for making pro wrestling famous in the 1980s and ushering WWE’s Golden Era. During his time at the top, he feuded with a number of great wrestlers and had memorable moments. However, many of who worked with Hogan also recalled the ‘Hulkster’ doing his best to keep his spot at the top and being less than helpful at times. Despite this, Hogan once also helped ‘discover’ a legendary female wrestler and get her a shot in WWE.

Former WWE star Brutus Beefcake recently revealed how he and Hulk Hogan came to meet iconic women’s wrestler-manager Sherri Martel and credited Hogan for discovering her. He also talked about how Hogan’s mother found out Martell’s likeness for his son.

Beefcake credited Hulk Hogan with discovering Sheri Martell

During the 1980s, WWE had a plethora of male superstars like Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, and others. They were short on female superstars in true terms and women wrestling didn’t have much recognition. It was during this time that Sherri Martel arrived in WWE.

Her charisma saw her succeed both as a wrestler and a manager in WWE. She became one of the rare female stars during that era. She held the WWE Women’s Championship for an impressive 441 days as well. Another WWE legend, Brutus Beefcake, recently claimed on the Wrestling Shoot Interviews how he and Hulk Hogan ‘discovered’ Sherri Martel. He said they were in Memphis when they came across Martel.

The WWE Hall of Famer also mentioned that Hogan’s mother found out that Martel liked Hogan after she came upon a bunch of photos that Martell sent her son in an envelope.

He said, “Hulk kinda discovered her. She took a liking to him. I think she actually sent a bunch of pictures of herself to his house in Florida, which his mother got. Hulk’s mom was great though, nothing would phase her.” Brutus also said, although Hogan’s mother got hold of the pictures, which were a little steamy and Hogan was perplexed, his mother didn’t care.

After finding her feet in WWE as a wrestler, ‘Sensational Sherri’ became a manager. This role made her even more popular. Ironically, she managed some of Hulk Hogan’s biggest rivals during her stint as a manager. She first allied herself with Macho Man Randy Savage after Miss Elizabeth left him on-screen.

Sherri would also provide a valet to the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase before managing Shawn Michaels. Shawn Michaels and Sherri were a perfect fit. With Sherri at his side, Michaels got his cool, rockstar image over with the crowd.

She also famously lent her voice to Shawn’s iconic “Sexy Boy” theme song. Her stint in WWE lasted from 1987 to 1993. In 2006, WWE inducted Sherri Martel into the Hall of Fame before her tragic and sudden demise in 2007.
